N.CA docs Peters/Goadsby

Does anyone here have experience with Kenneth Peters at the Northern California Headache Clinic or Peter Goadsby (he just started at UCSF Medical Center Headache Clinic in 05/08 - he previously was at the Institute of Neurology at University College London)

So I got tired of my new neuro when he gave me Aleve before Pred & Verap (told me it could be a prophylactic) and stupid me wanting to believe - before my CH cycle started - took it, got in a heap-o-trubble with my GI syst... he seemed helpful yet not-too-experienced when I got my O2 after a week, but I'm movin on...

My GP gave me a referral to Peter Goadsby up at UCSF at my insistence, but I have yet to hear from his office after a few days - I will call, but am afraid his schedule is probably pretty booked.
Just after I got the referral from my GP, my neuro looks at me and says he has 'one more thing to try before throwing his hands up - lithium - then he passes me off to a HA Specialist" - he was referring to Kenneth Peters in Mountain View, CA.   Angry  2nd stupid neuro... he should have just passed me off in the first place!!!  grumble grumble

Anyone who has worked with either doc/ knows of someone who has would be greatly appreciated!  Smiley  I can't find many reviews out there online...

If you can, go see Dr. Goadsby!

He is SO well known around this site!  He is the INTERNATIONAL guru for clusters!  You can't do any better than to be under his care!

He is the world renown expert on cluster headaches.  The best of the best!

You are SO lucky to live close enough, and to get a referal to our hero!

Dr Peters was my neuro for a long time.  I would not hesitate to go to him again.  He knows all about clusters and our treatments (even the alternative ones).  He made sure I got the right O2 prescription, and he was very supportive.

Cool thanks both of you.  I just got off the "phone" - er - RECORDING with Goadsby's office HA.   something to the effect of "someone might contact you 14 business days After receiving a referral, imaging reports, and insurance info."  They will review your info before deciding if they will make the appt.   Grin

SO I might be waiting a month or more before they become available up at UCSF anyway.  BUT I got the MRI results from Weds sent up there, and they should have everything they need for now.   Roll Eyes
SO Might be Peters here I come!  Glad to hear someone has had success with him.  I know they are both published, and have experience... saw some shady reviews for peters and his associate so I wanted to get some CHer opinions if I could!   Wink  I Never believe just one review online...

Dr. Peters is the real deal.  I've never had a doctor who was so willing to learn from his patients.  He's a good guy, too.  He has loaded me up with 'samples' when I could not afford prescriptions during unemployment.  He fought with my O2 provider to get me a proper mask and regulator.  When I had an episode in his office, I was whisked away to a back room where I could deal with it without everybody acting like the world was ending.  He helped me with my medical leave paperwork.  All-in-all, I was extremely satisfied with his office.  Other places seemed like puppy mills that were much more interested in insurance compensation than the actual patient.

I feel I'm FinallY getting somewhere!   Cool   Grin
I sent in my papers to Goadsby only Friday - the MRI results and my insurance info that is (dr referral went in Tues last week)... with a note on it to Please get me in asap - I'm in Pain!!   Tongue  ha and I got a Surprise call today -

I HAVE An
Appointment with Goadsby
in a Month!
Woo-Hooooooo

In the meantime I am going to see Peters this afternoon and then dumping my old neuro for good.  at least I got some tests done in the meantime and HA Specialist appts made!   Figure if one specialists is good, two ought to be better huh?   Cheesy
I'm waitin for Goadsby, but for now, my neuro put me on Lithium Mon - told me to go in to get serum levels checked Fri, and didn't say anything about another appt with me.  too screwy.  I thought you had to have levels checked every few days.  I'm sure Peters will help me out here.   no more 'practicing' medicine on MEEEEE from some non-CH experienced neuro!  weeeee   Grin

Thanks for the advice here...
