Cool!
Apr 29th, 2009 at 4:28pm

Last May I undertook one of the hardest jobs I have ever done in my life.  It was not in my “job description” but I felt it was part of my job and a large bit of pride to undertake the task.  The University, over the last two and a half years built one of the most complex and expensive private research/teaching facilities in the US.  The task was move the entire Department out of two old buildings and into the new research complex without losing valuable research time or loss of active research.  Some of the research projects involve millions and millions of dollars and there were 20 active laboratories plus the faculty, teaching department and office staff.

Beginning last May I was intensely involved with the contractors that were building the new building, the Office of Design and Construction, the engineers and the actual movers in order to coordinate this move and make sure each lab was relocated in the new building with only a few days of down time and when they were in the new building they hit the ground running.  It was a very long 9 months and today I was asked to attend a faculty meeting where I was presented with an award, a plaque, signed by the entire department, and a gift thanking me, on behalf of the university and the entire department for my extraordinary efforts.

Many times last summer and fall I felt I was at the end of my rope with the stress involved but I guess it was all worth it.   Smiley  I don't believe the university has given out an award like this before. Cool!

Good hard work has a satisfaction with a certain beauty in the eye of the beholder.   Great to be recognized, good job and nicely done.  Very cool!      Smiley

Congratulations Paul - many people relied upon your determination and you showed them that their trust in you was not squandered.

Bless you for making their lives easier, as yours was not!

Well done Paul.

It amazes me that acknowledgment of a job well done is not rewarded more often when it is due. Usually it's free of charge but it can be the most valuable thing that can be bestowed upon someone. The result of this kind of kindness can lift you beyond what you thought were your limitations.

Not enough of it in this world.

Again...well done.

Thanks folks!  Your posts and the plaque was a much needed shot in the arm. Smiley

I think the last year gave me more grey hairs and removed some grey matter (wish it got rid of the excess in my hypothalmus  Wink than the last 10 years did.  The recognition today made it all worth it.

There is nothing better than the feeling of a job well done and the pride of accomplishment, but when it gets recognized (as it does so rarely) that is just the sprinkles on the icing of the cake!

Way to go.
