The new poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy

Well.,………..
I think I’ll have a go for next year

I meandered lonely as one once proud.
That used to float on high o'er towns and mills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of flight attendants in next doors field
Beside the bog, beneath the trees,
Stuttering and prancing in the street.

Continuous as the stars that did shine
And hope they get their chosen part,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin to shake their hands:
A few million saw at a glance,
Tosses’ their heads in an ugly dance.

The air waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the inferior quality sound in glee:-
A Poet could not but be happy
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but had little thought
What wealth they show to me had not brought:

For oft when on my settee I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash momentarily upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude,
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
My god do they deserve the pig flu ills
