Birdie pics from this week
May 9th, 2009 at 12:21pm

OK...two pic posts from me in one day.  I swear I will try put down the camera!  Grin

I heard lots of squawking this morning and this was what I found outside my window.  We have three pair of geese on the lake.  Two mating pair with babies and one immature pair that the other two pair let stick around as long as they don't get too close!

I love the pictures of the birds!  I don't have too many birds in my yard, the boys (cats) take care of that.  What is the bird with the red cap and cream underbelly?

That's a Redbellied Woodpecker.  Yes, they do like to make lots of noise pecking on the trees.  They kinda sound like a mini jackhammer.

Modified because my brain quit somewhere between my fingers typing.  Roll Eyes

Oh, doesn't look like the ones we have here!  Yeah, I hear them some times.  I can go out in the early evening and hear the mourning doves calling to each other and sometimes I can hear whipporwills.

I didn't get a photo, but I just saw a Scarlet Tanager at my Oriole feeder (grape jelly).  What a GORGEOUS bird.

I modified my post to answer your question Carolyn.  The Woodpecker is a Redbellied, not a Redheaded.  Some days my brain doesn't work so well...... Tongue

Beth,

The pics are wonderful!   PLEASE keep at it!

I love the Woodpecker and your little Hummingbird friend!

I have two Woodpeckers that hang around here in the winter.  Their backs look the same as the one in your yard but their heads are gray.  They have a red triangle on the back of their necks.  They are so beautiful!

Thanks for sharing the beauty of your yard with us.  If I lived at your house, I'd want to stay home all day!

Those are probably Downy Woodpeckers.

It is so nice this time of year, I don't want to go anywhere.  I wish it would stay like this year round.
