out living your friends
May 11th, 2009 at 12:00am

well were burying another one of my friends tomorrow. i guess thats a part of life outliving your friends. he wrecked his bike last tuesday. we used to be really close but i haven't seen him in years. seeing some old friends has helped. i can't imagine how his folks feel. my uncle once told me that you not supposed to bury your young.

ryan was a kinda tall and goofy looking. he talked and laughed loud to. he was a very talented  mechanic. i remember when he moved up from texas. i think we were both about 14. he had all kinds of junk in his yard. trucks, boats, cars, lawn mowers, tractors, motorcycles. i liked him immediately.
we went to school with grease under our fingernails. there was so many things that ryan and i had taken apart and put back together before we could legally drive. one time we mounted a 23 hp Wisconsin  engine on a go kart. we broke the frame and then we toke a 650 honda engine and mounted it on the new chassis we had built from pipes and junk laying around. then when we got older it seemed that we did the same thing with chevettes and 403 oldsmobile engines. there were so many things that ryan and i had created and modified in that barn of his. evan in the dead of winter we would hang out in the barn with numb fingers and toes working on something.
i don't know how either one of us survived those years. now that we're in our 30s and have kids and mortgage payments he wrecked his bike being cautious and sensible. it just doesn't add up.

I'm sorry, Sweetie.  The loss of a dear friend is difficult.  It doesn't get any easier with age, I'm afraid, but it seems especially hard when you're young.   Cry

Sympathies to you, his family and all who knew and loved him.

Love ya,
Jackie

johnny,
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend my prayers will be with his family and friends.it is true you should never have to outlive your children.it is a heart wrenching fact of life that I hope never happens to me.It sounds like you and your friend live/lived life enjoying every minute of it.my suggestion is when you can that you do something very special for his family.sit down and write some great memories that you had of him when you where young.I don't know how old his children are but make one for each child, his wife and parents. If the his wife can share not just the stories of there life together but can share your stories too.make copies of pictures you may have of him young that they may not have seen give everyone there own copies and you keep the originals.make sure you tell your kids the stories or better yet make them a copy.the more memories of him you keep alive the more you honor him.just my opinion.my mom always tells my kids stories of when i was young..thanks mom Roll Eyes  Wink

I'm 49 and can't keep track of the number of friends I've buried. I keep waiting for that stage in my life where it doesn't hurt so damned much. Hasn't come yet. Love and hugs to you friend. Smiley Smiley

Johnny,
I remember my 102 yr old grandmother crying when my Mom died.she said "it's just not fair. Everyone has left me. If only God would take me now, because I have overstayed my welcome here on earth." We don't get to pick these things. There is a far bigger man than any of us who makes the decisions. It's simply up to us to make some sense out of it all.
My heart goes out to you and to  friend's family.

Johnny - I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend.  Somehow it's just not fair.

I share your pain - I lost my best friend on March 26th after a long fight with breast cancer.  I still think I need to phone her when something comes up and then reality hits once again. Cry

Hang in there Johnny.

My condolences to you Johnny... It's tough loosing childhood friends.

I've lost 28 of my classmates over the years and it hurts like the devil. All we can do is remember the "good times" we had with them and know that they're watching over us now.

Johnny,

I know the feeling of loss, I've lost dear friends in much the same way. They were chosen to go and we're left without them, but they will always be a part of us.

Tell the "Fella's" they look like a group I would be happy to know. God bless you and them.
