Time flyes.......(now with pics)
May 24th, 2009 at 12:03am

Ok...I'm already starting to tear up over my son Graduating tomorrow. Where did my baby boy go? Where did the years go?

(warning for the men, quit reading now unless you are ready for TMI rant)

I still remember the day I gave birth to this child like it was yesterday. The contractions weren't steady, and heavy labor lasted over 20 hours. I only knew a contraction was coming because my left wrist would twitch. They would come between 1 minute back to 10 minutes apart, back to 1 to 3 to 5 to 1...it wasn't a text book delivery by any means.

There were 3 doctors during all this time, and I begged the last one to please break the water...he didn't till my son crowned. I was dry pushing for 45 minutes at his insistance (the sadist).

Finally he broke the water and my son was born in only 3 more puches. Right on his due date. And 10 years to the day my Father died.

The placenta was nearly as big as he was, and when that was delivered, the spatters hit the doctor, the nurse, my husband and the celing......(served the sadist right in my opinion).

I was so tired...I slept for nearly 24 straight hours after, and I woke to bruises down to my knees from the dry pushing and I couldn't sit without a dougnut as there were so many stiches. But I had a beautiful baby boy who clung to me, and cried like a banshi if he wasn't near me and sucking my pinky finger.

I spent the next 4 months with him sleeping on my chest and him sucking my finger as a pasafier, as he wouldn't take any other binkie sold on the market.

Then I had the brainstorm. He took his bottle, so I took the old nipples from the hospital, and turned them inside out and put tape over the holes. Turned them right again, and stffed a bit of cotton in thm then covered the entre bottom with duct tape and trimmed off the excess.

Whalla! A binkie he would take and he would sleep soundly (sort of) as long as he could smell me, so my dirty clothes were in his crib and finally, after those months I got some real rest in a few hour incriments.

Now...he's been a published writer for over 3 years and editor of a student written newspaper. He's been the president of the youth leadership Group Keystone at the local BGC (Boys and Girls Club).

He's comfortable in his own skin now, and has (after much soul ssearching) finally told his father he is gay.

Ghandi said..."Be the change you want to see in the world."

My son has taken this to heart and fears be damned, he's living it. I couldn't be more proud.

I can't imagine how the tears will flow tomorrow.

Pages turn, and chapters close. This is the beginning of his own life story.

I Love you Dylan!

Those three paragraphs, above, speak of quite a life!  Binkie ... getting published ... Accepting who and what he is ...

Pretty impressive!

It sounds like you done good, Mom!

I wish I had had his strength, at that age, to admit and accept my sexuality, but then again, if I had, I would not have the four pain in the ass brats wonderful children, that I have!  It had to have been VERY hard to come out to his father.

Whenever I think of a parent, or guardian, reminiscing on bringing up a child, I think of Angela Lansbury, in Mame, singing "If He Walked into My Life, Today" Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

But, it sounds like you did JUST fine with that graduating son!

Congrats, Mom and Dylan!

Congratulations!! It does go way to fast. I can hear 3 notes of Pomp and Circumstance and start crying! Doesn't matter if it's a nursery school graduation, my students or my own kids! It was lots of fun when that was in my piano lessons. Enjoy this new phase you are about to begin.

To Dylan:

fly....my young friend...fly.  Congratulations and may the force be with you.  You're  on  the road less travelled.  May you always be true to yourself,   kind to others, look to help others  finding their way... and may God be with with you every step of your way.

Congratulations Dylan! - - - Mom too!

You and he have every right to be proud.

By the way, you should be published too. Your domestic revelations would fit right in the Buffalo News Sunday paper. Maybe it pays well: Warren Buffett owns the thing. Cool

I was gone this past weekend, so I missed this thread entirely. Please accept my apologies.

Congratulations, Dylan. This is just another of the stepping stones of life, and knowing you, there will be many, many more ahead. Your mom and dad are very proud of you, as are we here at ch.com.

Keep the wind at your back - the journey is much easier that way.

Oh my GOD he's grown! That's no kid anymore... eeeeek!

Congratulations Dylan, I hope life is all you can make it. Some times the trick isn't knowing the answers but rather, knowing what the question is you want to ask.

Peg - I love your hair in that pixie cut. It really suits you.
