Fine looking family you have there!  Congradulations to your son on his achievement.  What is his MOS going to be?  My son Christopher now works for the Drill Instructor school at MCRD SD and pushes all there papers.

Congrats to the new Marine Jerry!  You have every reason to be proud of your son(s)!

Looking at the pics brings me back to the 3 graduations I attended there not too many years ago.

Hugs,

LOL....he's even at 'parade rest'  with his best friend buddy.   He's going to make a wonderful Marine.

I hope you will tell him about us here and that we're almost as proud of him as you are.

Originally he wanted to go Recon, second choice communications, but he is a little colorblind (differentiating shades of green from each other) so he can't do either.  At the moment he is just going infantry and hoping for machine gunner.  He hopes to take as many of the schools as they will let him.  His long term goals are to use this as a spring board into law enforcement, so he is trying to find things that will carry over.  Any input along those lines would be appreciated by both of us.

Thanks so much for the good comments.  I could not be prouder!

Jerry, my brother-in-law Mike has been an Embassy Guard for the past 4 years and years ago he had wanted to become a police officer.  I am pretty sure it helps in that area.  Anyway, he changed his mind along the way and it looks like now he's going career.  He usually doesn't make up his mind though (or tells us at least) until a few days before it's paper signing time for another 2-4 years (or whatever), lol.

Fine looking Jarhead ya got there Jerry. Parade Deck huh, first time I've heard it called that. We called it the Grinder.
Which of the Police, or Security forces he wants to go into. FBI, Secret Service, CIA etc dictates which MOS and schools your young Marine needs to aim for. 0331 (Machine Gunner) isn't one of them. Nor is my old MOS 8654 (Force Recon). He wants a security MOS like Embassy Guard, and take all the law and security courses he can get from the Marine Academy at CMC 8th & I Street WA DC. He will probably need to take two more years of college after seperation. But he will have his pick of State and Federal Security and Intelligence agencies to work for. They love former Marines.
Thats the short version, hope it helps.

Thanks Kirk!  They still call it the Grinder, too.  Parade Deck is the official name. Smiley

He is looking to get on with the force here in Aurora, and 4yrs prior military will take care of the 2 yrs college normally required.  Tehy are not real picky about your MOS, they just like the self-discipline the military helps develop.  They too love Marines.  When Michael was trying for the Police Cadet program last year the recruiter who came to the house for the family interview saw Rob's picture on the wall and said to tell him she would like to talk with him if he was interested in police work.  She said Marine experience was equivalent to 4 yrs college no matter what MOS.  Of course, if she is like Marine recruiters you know how to tell if she is lying don't you?
