I thought some might be interested how I fared with the thyroid surgery on April 30th.

Well, the surgery went without problems. (Although they took both sides, not only 3/4, so I'll take thyroid hormone pills for the next 50 years.) After 2 days I was already smoking and coughing again, but the coughing (and swallowing) did hurt some for a few days.
But much worse it went for my beard. An overzealous anesthetist did mutilate it badly.

But some complications came later. Adjacent the thyroid is the organ that regulates the Calcium level in the blood. This got pissed off by the disturbance nearby and shut down. As a result on day 3 my blood Calcium had dropped from a normal level of 2 (of some units) to 0.9. Such a low level makes a guy very apathetic and sleepy. So, instead of going home I had to do 3 days overtime while they tried to get my Calcium back into whack.
When I finally got home after 5 days Jupi was so elated that he almost wanted to eat me up. Although he was fed by a neighbor, he missed the cuddling. BTW, he turned 14 last week.
Waiting for my Ca level to regulate itself again I had to boost it with big chunks of chalk. That was quite a drag; why in hell do they have to "improve" something tasteless with artificial aroma and sweeteners??? I can assure you, coffee with a smack of lemon isn't what you want for breakfast.
All seemed to go well. On May 13th the Ca level had reached 2.4 units, so I could reduce the Ca supplements. But not enough as seen in hindsight.
On the evening of the 21st I got a real mother-fucker of a CH attack, something I hadn't experienced since I know about preventative and better "abortive" than Aspirin. In the last 10 years I sucked a few times a week oxygen at a leisurely rate of 6-8 liter/minute, while playing some computer game, and in 5 to 10 minutes all was gone, never exceeding a Kip #2. But this time I had to remember what I've read about high flow rates and hyperventilating. But still, the intensity kept slowly increasing for more than half an hour. Zero level was only reached after 2 hours. After a calm hour the beast surfaced again. Needless to say during the night a wake-up call every 90 minutes, but these where dealt with in 15 min.
The same scenario the following days.

I emptied four 4000 liter oxygen tanks in the following 10 days.
The slow and long ramp-ups suggested a continuous trigger. I suspected too high Calcium, notably because after the 3rd of 6 daily Ca tablets shadows were appearing. Therefore, I cut back to 4 tablets a day, giving a slight improvement.
On the 30th the Ca level was 2.6, so the doctor told me to stop the supplements. In the last 2 days the cluster activity is almost back to (my) normal routine.
Has anybody any experience / knowledge / explanations about blood Ca level and cluster activity ?
