Beer/Hold Steady
Jun 10th, 2009 at 12:32pm

Hey guys,
I'm really sorry if this topic has come up before, but I had an experience last night that was out of the ordinary.

Been in cycle for 3 weeks now, with very little drinking so's not to tempt the beast.  Haven't had a h/a for a few days so i thought I would drink some beers at a Hold Steady concert with friends (Hold Steady is great and their music goes VERY well with beer).  Had about 4 beers, no problem and then the INSTANT the concert ended a headache started, peaking around k8 within 20 minutes and lasting almost all night.  Luckily I had 2 fiorecet on me, even though it didnt stop it, it dulled the edges.

Anyway, anyone else ever experience that?  Thought it was strange that the moment i was done being distracted, it all came back.

Nope - I've never been to a Hold Steady concert.

I'm the wrong guy to ask. I drink very little, going months at a time without. When I do I never mix it with narcotics, and I would always wait a minimum of a month without a hit before trying any booze at all.

Maybe someone else will come along to help.

Yeah I usually try and avoid it while in cycle...and I thought I was in the clear.   Thanks for your insight anyway though.

And check out the Hold Steady.  they're great!  (now I sound like I work for them ha)

My guess is you were "positively stressed" at the concert...as in totally stoked and having a blast. Stress "let down" is a major trigger for many on the board. As soon as they get home from work and relax, BAM. My guess....(a totally uneducated guess mind you!)....is you were the recipient of a stress let down attack, as soon as the concert ended, you started the let down, beasty came to play.

Do you have oxygen yet? Kills my attacks in 6-8 minutes. 20 years ago I was using fiorinal, upset my tummy, dulled the edges of the attack but never killed it. Doesn't hold a candle to how fast and effective the 02 works.

That  makes a lot of sense, thank you.

And as far as the 02, my doc was reluctant to give it to me.  Can a neurologist prescribe it?

Yes. Any medical doctor can prescribe it.

If you can't get them to, there's always welder's oxygen. It's the same darned stuff.

To repeat what's been said about 100,000 times here.... pain killers are USELESS for CH.  A cup of coffee works a LOT better (caffeine is a vaso-constrictor which is what HELPS a CH!). Coffee - an energy drink or a vaso-constrictor (Imitrex, cafergot) is what is recommended - NOT painkillers - they are useless!

O2 is HIGHLY recommended here (it works wonderful to kill a CH for about 70% of us). It MUST however be USED PROPERLY to be effective - Check out the thread on O2 to see how to use it properly - print it out and TAKE it to your doc or neuro and DEMAND it. It will kill a hit in no time if used right with the proper mask (they can be ordered at the ch.com store).

Read up on treatment (prevents and aborts). We're here to help and there is a wealth of knowledge on this board.

Hope this is a short cycle for you..

Hugs BD Kiss
