Prayers for my Sister
Jun 29th, 2009 at 6:28pm

My Sister, Michelle, suffered from a blood-sugar incident 6 weeks ago. Her blood sugar plummeted to 4 and she went into a coma.

I cant tell y'all what an agonizing decision it is determining whether life-support should be removed or not.

She seemed to be "gone" and severely brain-damaged because of the incident.  We, as a family, decided to wait & see what happens.

We didn't have any luck at all. Her kidneys have shut down and the life support will not keep her alive, so she was removed from it last Saturday.

We will miss her from now on.

I want to say a few things about her to "memorialize" her so to speak.

Her name IS Michelle Milhone and she is 39 years old.
Michelle had a very difficult life due to her illness. The kind of life that might make some people give up.

But not my Sister. She studied every day to get hers Masters degree. Even on days that she was so sick she could hardly get out to school....she managed !!!
Even her personal life was difficult.

She was only a semester short of a double-masters degree when her medical condition put her in a coma.

I have always been proud of the way she lived her life in a dignified way no matter what life threw at her.

This tough, dignified and unbeatable spirit was and is my Sister Michelle.

Dave

Wow, thanks folks. This is the only site I posted on...meaning that the people here I have great respect for. You know y'all may have saved my life when I first came here.
Yeah, I was really confused and admittedly very afraid.
Just so you know, I only posted to tribute my Sister. Not trying to make myself the victim. She was just such a kool girl and I am very proud of the way that while those around her compromised their principals, she took life's beatings with dignity !!!

Yup, she was & is something special. I forgot to mention that her medical condition was diabetes. Her condition was really hard on her body. She had 20 year old bruises on her shins from simpe accidents we all have like banging our foot on the coffee table etc. Diabetes can cause this to happen.
She lost vision in one eye and had kidney problems. I was going to give her a kidney after she got through her foot surgery.
Anyways, thanks for all the kind words, it only says what I already know about the good people here.
Regards, Dave

Diabetes is a nasty disease. It can affect so many of our organs, and it takes constant effort to remain stable.
I am so sorry about your sister, but, as time begins tro heal your wounds, please know, her struggle is over and her pain is gone.

I send you my sympathy-what more can I do?

Cathi

I am so sorry to hear your sister has had such a struggle with life despite a will to live every day to the fullest. I pray her remaining days are peaceful and painless and the days ahead will become easier for you and your family.

I'm so sorry for you Dave and there is not at lot i can say to help how you feel at the moment
If only we had a magic wand.
I've been going through my dad's stuff today after 8 months so i feel pretty low myself but i can't compare.
I don't think it matters what others say it sure doesn't take the pain away.
