CH and brusing question
Jul 8th, 2009 at 10:43pm

Lisa had her check up with her neurologist today. As usual, he asked if she had any brusing. And as usual she said yes and he continued the appt. with no comment. Today, I asked why he always asks this and just goes on and he said that it is pretty common that brusing occurs pretty easily with CH patients yet they don't really know why. He didn't seem to concerned, just checking in. Blood tests have been fine so maybe he's right. She climbs out of the pool and her shin is bruised! Has anyone else found this to be true? He's a great doctor from one of the top CH programs (Jefferson Hospital) so I doubt he's wrong. I'd love to hear others experience. Yes or no to bruising???

This is the first time I have heard that.  IF that is true, then this is just another CH rule that I break.  I am VERY difficult to bruise ...

Chuck

(But as her Mom, you probably DON'T want to hear that those bruises are really from the wild and kinky sex that she has ... )

I don't recall Joe bruising easily either. That is except when he closes his thumb in his door but that is a story for a different thread or over cocktails some day. Grin

It's new to me too. I wonder how many clusterheads take Warfarin? You people are still young and don't need blood thinners though.

Tell Lisa to stop banging her shins on the side of the pool  Cool

I think I bruise less easily than Joe Average. And my neuro has never asked me about it.

I don't bruise at all easily.  But I'm also heterozygous for Factor V Leiden, and Factor V individuals seldom bruise.

Best,

It's good that a doctor would ask that - there have been several discussions here and in the research about people that have coagulation disorders like thrombosis and cluster headaches.  Some people that have been put on blood thinners like warfarin claim these drugs help them.

At this point, I don't think we can say all clusterheads have these type of blood/circulation disorders, but it is one avenue to think about.  There have been a few people that had far fewer cluster headaches after treating moya-moya disease, which also reduces blood flow to the brain (it involves bone narrowing the arteries, not a blood clot, but the result is the same - less blood flow).

I bruise more easily also.  Perhaps it's more of a female tendency than a male one....

Charlotte,

This may or may not have any direct relationship to bruising associated with Lisa's cluster headaches...  but bruising is listed as side effects from verapamil...

I think I would agree with you on that one Mel....

My little one Ceara is covered in bruises from just playing about, whilst Shane hardly got any.

Thanks for your input. First off, Chuck I doubt Lisa is having kinky wild sex.  HuhShe has very little time and most of her days are spent in the pool with a ton of little kids. I think possibly it may be from the verapamil although she is on a really low dose (240mg). The same thing happened when she was on prednisone. We'lll keep and eye on it. Thanks again!

I've had a lot of bruises and broken bones. But I don't think that CH had a thing to do with it. In fact the last time I got hit by a car I did'nt get one bruise out of it.
