Bluetooth help...
Jul 11th, 2009 at 4:51pm

I can only get files off my phone through my computer, not send them from my phone TO my computer.  Does anyone know of any software I can download in order to obtain them from my phone?  I have a bunch of pictures I need to get off of it and don't want to pay the 25 cents per pic.

Thanks for any help!

Mel,

I don't know which phone you have, but on all of mine (for several years) I've just used a USB cable. The phone shows up as an external drive, so I just copy them over. I use Bluetooth on my laptops and phone, but the USB cable is such a no brainer......

Melly, this is right up my ally.  What type of phone do you have?  If it does not have an FTP bluetooth profile then it is not capable of file transfer.

From Wikki...

File Transfer Profile (FTP)
Provides the capability to browse, manipulate and transfer objects (files and folders) in an object store (file system) of another system. Uses GOEP as a basis.

I can look it up for you and let you know if you have that capability and if you do, I can tell you how to do the transfers.

If not you have the option of USB cord or transferring your files to your memory card then using your adapter to insert the memory card into your computer.

Hope this helps!

Marc and Donna, thanks.

I have a Samsung SCH-R430 Myshot.  I have done a ton of searching and it seems many have this problem.  I have a USB cable but when I connect it, my puter doesn't recognize it as another drive.  I then bought a Bluetooth Dongle and my phone and puter recognize each other until I try to send the pictures through the bluetooth.  I am thinking either the phone is locked or I need to buy software. Undecided

Appreciate the help, thanks!

Let me see what I can find for you.  Sometimes you can "see" your computer from your phone but if it doesn't have the correct profile it won't transfer the files.

Checking now...stay tuned for details Tongue

OK.  So your phone does have the FTP capabilities which means it should work directly with your computers bluetooth.

Try these steps.

Activate the Bluetooth function on the t339 by doing the following:

Select Menu
Select Settings
Select Bluetooth
Select Turn Bluetooth On
Select the desired Bluetooth to connect with
Enter Pin (typically 0000) and wait for Bluetooth device to recognize your request
Select Yes when you receive the "Serial Connect Message."
Once connected to the device, follow these instructions:

I found these instructions on a phone forum I visit a lot.

Just follow the bluetooth pairing instructions with your computer

Once a pairing has been established, open My Computer and click on "My Bluetooth Places".

You will see your phone listed as SCH-R430. Click on it.

One of the available profiles is "File transfer on SCH-430". Click on that.

You phone will prompt you with "Exchange data with [your computer name]". Press YES on your phone.

You will see 3 folders, IMAGES, MUSIC, SOUNDS.

Click on the IMAGES folder if you want to upload pics, on the MUSIC folder if you want to upload MP3s to use as a ringtone.

You phone will again prompt you with "Exchange data with [your computer name]". Press YES on your phone. (Everytime you try to open a new folder or upload a file, the computer will prompt you. Just press YES.)

You can simply use the copy and paste function of your computer to put pictures and music in the folders.

If that does not work try deleting the existing profile from the phone (the one that shows your computer's name) and search again for existing bluetooth devices and try the above steps again.

Let me know if it helps!

Oh shit.  I just realized Jesse took it with him to work tonight!  He left about 10 min. ago.

I will definately try this out in the morning when he gets home Donna, but there is one thing.  I do remember reading somewhere also about going to "My Bluetooth Places" under my computer, but I don't have anything like that.  All I have when I click on "Computer" are the C:, D: and E: drives and "My Sharing Folders".  Nowhere can I find it!

Let me check on the not finding the "My Bluetooth Places" for you...may have to talk to my tecchies at work for that one.

In the mean time...As far as your computer not recognizing the phone when plugged in via USB.

To connect as a mass storage device

Select Menu.
Select Settings.
Select Phone Settings.
Select USB Settings.
Select Mass Storage

You have to have Mass Storage turned on in order to transfer files.

You may have to send it from the phone, if it has any kind of security.

Oh Donna, you'll be so proud of me!  After some thinking, I went to the Bluesoleil website and downloaded their software since that is the little disc I got along with my dongle (off eBay).  My computer wasn't reading the disc at all, so I thought I'd see if I could d/l it, and after doing so, I was FINALLY able to get the pictures off my phone after pairing it up again.  Yay!!!!

If I didn't d/l that, I would have needed to purchase different software along with another adaptor.  What a pita!

Thank you again sweetie, you're the best!!
