Hi Trapper Rich and Welcome!

Many of us do have certain times of the day that we get hit with a CH attack.  Mine are at night after an hour to an hour and a half of sleep sometimes longer, then I'm awake with a screaming beast of a CH attack.  I also tend to get hit between 1pm and 5pm if I'm going to get a CH Attack during the day, this especially sucks when at work.

Have you seen a Neuro ?  My suggestion is to see one as soon as possible to rule out any other causes, but due to timing an schedule of re-occurrence they do sound like episodic cluster headaches.  See a Neurologist as soon as you can.

Hi Rich - welcome to the group, sorry to meet you this way. I'm a supporter, my husband also suffers from CH.

Our experience, as others will likely share, is that CH changes over time. What do you use as preventives and headache abortives?

Welcome to CH.com Richie,

Check out the "oxygen info" tab on the left of this screen. With the right equipment and use, O2 aborts up to 99% of my attacks.

Imitrex pills are considered too slow reacting for CH. The inhalers or injections are much better. With the right O2 gear you may not even need it, or very rarely.

Wishing you the best,          Don

Hi Richie,

Welcome, and sorry you are going through this too!   Embarrassed
I just wanted to reiterate a few things -   clusters can change any time, so having them at the same time one cycle doesn't mean they'll always be that way.  Mine are no longer predictable.

Check into the Oxygen info as a primary abort for your headaches - take the info to your headache specialist (and get one if you don't have a good specialist) - The Oxygen works well without side effects and you don't have to worry about the issues of heart probs like you do for anxiety with imitrex.
As for the imitrex shots, I do keep those for backup for when I'm not by the oxygen - they work Much better than pills which take WAY too long.  The shot is in a pen - it's in an injector.  It's called a statdose Kit.  You don't even see the needle.  You can probably look it up if you're nervous.  Or ask your specialist, once again.  Much better than pills for CH.   Wink

Welcome to the board Rich! For the first 20 years I joked they set the atomic clock by my cycles. The start and end dates, the attacks themselves, like a well oiled machine!!! I hit my 40's and the cycles went all over the board, got my first introductions to the wake up at 2:00 am with a screamer attack. Point is, yeah, the beast morphs like a son of a gun!

Glad you have oxygen. 31 years and it's still my first line of defense. Do read the oxygen info on the left to make sure you're getting the full advantage of 02. The critical points are a non re beather mask, and a high flow regulator. Have you ever been put on any prevent meds? A med you take daily, while on cycle, to lessen the number and intensity of your attacks? I use lithium, Vreapamil is currently a front runner for your first try. Certainly worth talking to the doc about. Can  really reduce your dependance on the 02 while on cycle.

Danged glad you found us.

Joe
