Anybody tried the herbal remedies
Jul 12th, 2009 at 6:34pm

I saw the adds at the home page for Myorex, has anybody tried this. I am uninsured and desperate for relief.
I know I can not survive this episode, I got welding grade 02, some say is not good for you. It goes to fast and alleviates for only a short time.
Was not seeking a way to die but now consumed with no hope. Any news on any treatments like the Myorex.
I tried about a third recreational dose of Psilicibin in a tea yesterday. Felt the headache while high but okay, then as I was coming off the headache was paralyzing. Cry

God keep you all.

You might want to look for a thread titled Synergy, It's a mix that some clusterheads have had success with. There are a lot of herbs that can help out...

I checked the ingredients for the myorex, I haven't heard of this before but I'll look around and see what I can find on the stuff used in it.

Hang in there, Oxygen does go pretty fast, but it's worth it...

Some of the clusterbusters MIGHT be able to help you with the other treatment and all.

As far as I'm concerned, cluster busting has been the best treatment I've tried. No migraines since I started it, and my hits have gotten so much better. Wanna know more?

From a previous discussion on myorex:

Quote:
The website seems to be long on hype and some things there raise cautionary flags.

The ingredients are:

Pearls Calcined 11.50 mg
Ferrum Calcined 11.50 mg
Nux vomica 11.50 mg
Cinnabar 5.7 mg
Saffron 0.2 mg
Ambergris 24 mg

It doesn't say if this is per tablet, per pound of tablets, or what. That is important, because some of the ingredients there are quite toxic!

Pearls and Ferrum are limestone and Iron - easy to get from a less expensive supplement.

Nux vomica is the plant that contains strychnine - since it is so toxic, I am guessing the dose is homeopathic, and not likely to have any effect.

Cinnabar is mercury ore - again, toxic unless it is diluted to the point of being inactive. The web site says something about homeopathy for that - which is pretty much nonsense as far as I am concerned.

Saffron - a great spice, good for many medical conditions, but cheaper to buy at a food market.  And the dose of saffron is apparently lower than the dose of mercury and strychnine, so probably not doing much.

Ambergris - a secretion from whales that has hormone-like effects in humans (good aphrodisiac). It does have a historic use for headaches, but not sure what type.  I'm not even sure that it is legal to buy and sell ambergris in the US, as it comes from an endangered species.

Bottom line - haven't heard anyone here who benefited from such a combination, there are lots of questions, and I would not be eager to buy this if I was suffering and had a tight budget.  For the price of one bottle of that stuff, you could buy a bottle of melatonin, a few hundred tabs of antihistamine, and a few bottles of kudzu,  and magnesium.  Nothing is surefire for everyone, but melatonin/magnesium/kudzu/antihistamine have some evidence to support their use.

Just because things are advertized  here does not mean they work.  The advertisments are not DJ's doing, nor are they representative of clusterheadaches.com.  They are simply that, advertising.  No different than on TV or radio.

Welder's oxygen is the same thing as medical oxygen, often from the same tank from the same supplier.  One comes in one container and the other in another container.  One has a medical label on it and costs prohibitably more than the one without the label.  One requires a prescription, the other requires a welding tank.  The important thing is whether or not you re using it properly.  Proper use has been very effective for quite a few of us, but when used improperly not so good.

I personally use Kudzu as a preventative.  I can't swear that it works totally, but my experience is that it has made a fair amount of difference.

Finally, don't give up.  This will end!  Hang on and keep trying.  You will make it if you keep your focus on life outside of CH.  I've been where you are, and I can say of a certainty that I'm glad I didn't give up.  Life is to precious to quit just because of CH.

I used a liquid form of kudzu in 40% grain alcohol from 5-1-06 until around mid 7-07 when the company stopped  making it. I tried other brands, capsule and liquid, including liquid w/glycerine instead of alcohol, but they did not help and I'm now using verapamil.

It is good to try things. You never know what will work. You can't go on what worked before or didn't work because things change with c h.

If you can afford a doc visit, print out this abstract and give to him. He can give you a sample of this med and you will know with one or two uses whether it aborts an attack for you.

If yes, this med is not cheap but, on a per dose basis, less than other abortives and you could buy it in small quantities as the budget allows.

Headache 2001 Sep;41(8):813-6

Olanzapine as an Abortive Agent for Cluster Headache.

Rozen TD.

Department of Neurology, Jefferson Headache Center/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate olanzapine as a cluster headache abortive agent in an open-label trial. BACKGROUND: Cluster headache is the most painful headache syndrome known. There are very few recognized abortive therapies for cluster headache and fewer for patients who have contraindications to vasoconstrictive drugs. METHODS: Olanzapine was given as an abortive agent to five patients with cluster headache in an open-label trial. THE INITIAL OLANZAPINE DOSE WAS 5 MG, AND THE DOSE WAS INCREASED TO 10 MG IF THERE WAS NO PAIN RELIEF. THE DOSAGE WAS DECREASED TO 2.5 MG IF THE 5-MG DOSE WAS EFFECTIVE BUT CAUSED ADVERSE EFFECTS. To be included in the study, each patient had to treat at least two attacks with either an effective dose or the highest tolerated dose. RESULTS: Five patients completed the investigation (four men, one woman; four with chronic cluster, one with episodic cluster). Olanzapine reduced cluster pain by at least 80% in four of five patients, and two patients became headache-free after taking the drug. Olanzapine typically alleviated pain within 20 minutes after oral dosing and treatment response was consistent across multiple treated attacks. The only adverse event was sleepiness. CONCLUSIONS: Olanzapine appears to be a good abortive agent for cluster headache. IT ALLEVIATES PAIN QUICKLY AND HAS A CONSISTENT RESPONSE ACROSS MULTIPLE TREATED ATTACKS. IT APPEARS TO WORK IN BOTH EPISODIC AND CHRONIC CLUSTER HEADACHE.

Olanzapine has a brand name of "Zyprexa" and is a antipsychotic. Don't be put off by this primary usage. Several of the drugs used to treat CH are cross over applications, that is, drugs approved by the FDA for one purpose which are found to be effective with unrelated conditions--BJ.
