Question for anyone who owns Goldfish (fantails)
Jul 14th, 2009 at 3:33pm

I have had mine for about 4 years now and only today did I notice him floating pretty still with his nose down and tail up in the tank.  I looked at him closer, and spooked him so he went swimming into our other Goldfish (a monster Lily won at the fair 8 years ago).  There was a lump on his back that looks like a raised mole.  A pic of it is below.  I am wondering if perhaps he is near the end? Undecided

Treat it for ich, it is caused by fast temperature swings. Best to separate it in a small tank and treat there. Make sure the temp and PH match the regular tank.

Some times shocking a fish with a bunch of treatments, especially salt ( pure salt, not table salt) will bring a dying fish back, but that is he last resort, it might kill them too.

Jennifer, I'm thinkin tumor too. Embarrassed

As for the ick, I've never had that problem with my fish but will keep it in mind.  I am going to observe him for the next 24hrs to see how he does and go from there.

Thanks.
