The optimism that thrives when it comes to
government making things better just astounds me.

We should have been optimistic about Medicare....especially doctors and the AMA that said it would be the end of civilization.  They changed their tune when they discovered what a cash cow it became....money talks LOUD in medicine. The abusers of Medicare and Medicaid have been insurers and a lot of doctors and lately a raft of clinics along corporate hospitals.....Not the patients that use Medicare. Older patients have a history paying their bills and treating it as it was intended. Left up to me and fellow seniors recipients, the thing would be solvent.

The "socialists" in the system are the evil drug companies, medical device manufacturers, lots of doctors, and the system busting out-of-whack for profit climate that has no interest in health of our citizens.  They are tickled pink with Medicare. They don't call it socialism any more as it's now and endless revenue stream. You never know, it's possible that someone will find a way to make a shitload of cash with goverment option insurance. God knows they will have the time and is what Americans do rather well. It will take something like 5 years to fully get it running thanks to the incredibly huge mess medicine has become without some restraint.

That it would raise the cost of medicine is ridiculous. There is strong evidence that when people can afford to see doctors and go to clinics, are able to follow up on therapy, and buy medicine that it will likely be better for the system.  It will help stop minor diseases made worse by lack of treatment because of having to interrupt it or cutting dosages or worse because of lack of money today. Small problems will be less likely to develop into life-threatening diseases and budget-busting medical care and all that goes with it.

There are some not-to-be-discounted social benefits to decent health care for everybody.

What are the chances that the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches are going to participate in the plan they have for us?

None. The single-payer government insurance they have is second to none. These millionaires have a sweet deal.

We're just asking for a bone or two so some poor kids don't die because of the wildly unfair corporate rationing by insurers that would pretty much end with government options.

Why is that Charlie...with all the talk about making things equal and such?

I have serious concerns about the debt Charlie. Our country seems destined to financial collapse. This level of borrowing is simply unsustainable.

What I witness out of Washington is a sad and laughable skit with delusional greedy puppets playing the part of noble leaders all possessing righteously entitled golden parachutes.

We won. Who cares? What's to debate?

I have absolutely no problem with private healt insurance companies.  They all have coverage booklets which explain what is covered and to what extent.  I've always known what I was getting before I signed on and they have always paid for covered items.  They have sometimes gone above and beyond what is covered when my Doc asks them to.

I think the problems arise when people don't read the information, like Congress and the health care bill.

They certainly do. Milliman Guidelines have been the gold standard used by insurance company bottom liners to approve or deny coverage. Their goal is to make coverage mean as little as possible. Rather than care for patients, they are interested only in piles of cash at the expense of the entire system. They "downcode" all the time.....doctors have to keep up on what their patients can afford rather than what they need. "Downcoding" is when they shorten hospital time coverage, cut drug allowances or lessen what is covered at all. Doctors have to deal with unrealistic "standards."

This buries the medical profession in paperwork. Doctors spend days doing little but begging for waivers for just one day or two so their patients don't die from lack of care. The insurers treat everyone with a given disease alike.....no special cases of different result or possible side-effects. Something unexpected happened? Tough.

Lesser childbirth coverage has even been on their wish list. Some have suggested making childbirth an out-patient occurance....less than a day. This horror is one that doctors have so far been been able to prevent.

It's worthy of Steven King. Patients are called "consumers," doctors are referred to as "providers." This is huge corporate medicine at its worst.

Make a living but don't kill people doing so.

And you think Obamacare is somehow going to be an improvement? I'm sure you're thinking it can't get any worse. Just wait if this thing passes.

White House wants more power to set Medicare rates

BOHICA

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House is asking Congress to give the executive branch more power to limit Medicare's rising costs.

A White House letter to top lawmakers on Friday said the move would be "a critical step forward" in controlling health care costs and providing better care.

The proposal would allow an independent advisory board to recommend changes in Medicare reimbursement rates for doctors, hospitals and other providers. If the president approved the recommendations, Congress could still vote to reject them altogether. But Congress could not approve some recommendations and reject others.

Currently, Medicare reimbursement rates vary from region to region. Key lawmakers often get involved in setting local rates, a practice the Obama administration plan would end.

There goes MEDICARE...  The big squeeze is only a signature away...

Sorry to say...  I told you so...

If you've not called your Congressmen to tell them what you think about all this...  take a brace and BOHICA!

Wednesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed the "Quality, Affordable Health Coverage for All Americans" bill, otherwise known as QAHCAA (pronounce it as it looks -- CACA).

I dunno Bob. I think I have this right: It is a committee vote, so far. The worst part is indeed the as much as 8% tax for non-compliance (even I don't like it the way it is) on larger business. Even with sliding down to 2% on smaller firms it's still significant. It may actually be harder on them.

I'm sure this is on shakey ground in the Senate.

This is the only chance at health care in my lifetime. If it doesn't work it amounts to being rolled by the insurance companies again.
