O2 - Frustrated in NY.
Jul 20th, 2009 at 1:26am

I am new here, so sorry if this has been discussed before but... Why is it that everyone with cluster headaches knows about the benefits of O2, but my doctor doesn't? He has no problem writing me a script for Zomig (which is fairly good as a nasal spray), but has never heard of oxygen for clusters. You would think I was asking for LSD. He is going to consult with a nuerosurgen and let me know. (I'm not making this up). So, if anyone knows a good doctor in Brooklyn NY who can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
Kenny

Sadly, outside of this board, the use of oxygen to treat CH is still a new idea! They'll shovel narcotics on you right and left but are terrified of prescribing 02!

Go to the oxygen link on the left, "oxygen Info", towards the bottom is an article you can print out and take to your doctor, it starts with this heading:
High Oxygen Flow Rates for Cluster Headache

Give your doc something he can hang his hat on. Good luck, 31 years with these things and oxygen is still my first line abortive, average abort time is 6-8 minutes.

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.

My neuro suggested O2 to me a year ago. Then I found this site and saw how many it helps so I got it.
Like anything, I think it's all in who your neuro is. I'm not trying to sound rude or mean but if he doesn't know much about O2, he most likely doesn't know much about clusters, so I would find another neuro.
Good luck with everything. I hope you can get the O2, because it REALLY does work. Wink

Hey Axxeman,

I also live in NY, and had no trouble with my regular doc - HOWEVER - Roosevelt Hospital in Columbus Circlue has a special clinic for headaches.  It's called The Headache Institute.  You should check it out..they know all about clusters, all about the meds and O2.  You won't have a problem getting what you need there.  I've been going for about 2 months and have really gotten my cycle under control.  Send me a message if you want to know more about it.

If your doctor doesn't understand how to treat CH's and won't learn - get a new doctor.

If you can't do that, you can get welding O2 to immediately stop the hits, then use the Zomig NS only as needed on an occasional basis.

While it's certainly not a cure, high flow oxygen therapy is damn near a miracle for many of us.

I'm in NY too.

Take a ride to NSLIJ and hook up with Noah rosen he runs the headache clinic there and ised to be with Jeffereson headache in Philly.

If up for an hr ride get your butt to NECH in Stamford where you can see world class doc Sheftell.

These are two docs who will take awesome care of you.

There's also Newman in Manhattan who is awesome.

Good luck and breathe

I can't believe that I have to bang my Head against this wall again. But the blows they have just a little more Space in-between them. Gonna take a breath and try again.
