Found a good combo FINALLY
Jul 20th, 2009 at 8:12am

I know we all have different combination's, and I hope I FINALLY found mine.
I was getting attacks all day, and all night but then I started taking 40 mg. of verapamil 3 times a day and it wasn't doing anything so my neuro uped it to 80 mg. 3 times a day. I stopped having them during the day, but I still get 3-5 attacks a night.
The O2 helps a LOT, but I am really tired during the day because I'm up at night.
The last few nights I took a treximet just before I hit the O2 and I actually slept in. I usually get woken up at 4 with an attack and just stay up, but this morning I slept till 7, and I feel great.
I know these sucker aren't predictable and can change at any given moment, but I'm happy TODAY Smiley

Not sure I should be here, but it's as near as I'm going to get to finding out what is the correct name for my condition. Usually KIP 5 or below but last up to 16 hours and always one-sided, behind the eye, usually right but ocassionally left.

Two things to inquire about:

1. Think about trying melatonin at night. In the US, you don't need a prescription.

2. Most clusterheads don't get relief from verapamil until they get to the 360-480mg/day range. Some need to go as high as 920mg/day.

Ya, I plan on getting the melatonin and I have an appointment with my neuro on the 3rd to talk about upping my dose on the verapomil. We'll see how that goes. But until then I've been kinda doing my own experimenting to see what I can do myself.

Whatever you do, do NOT mix that treximet with any other triptan without first getting your doctor's express approval.

My neuro told me not to take it with Ibuprofin. All I'm taking right now is the verapomil and trex. Nothing else besides O2.

My insurance only covers one refill a month on the Imetrix, but he gives me samples of trexamet. He did explain to me that they are the same thing.
I'll ask him before taking anything else though. Thanks for the heads up.

Good to hear your getting some effect.

I've been doing much the same with Imigran (Migrane meds) 20mg half way through killing a hit with o2 & I can get 6-8 hours reprieve & some much needed sleep, if i dont use the Imigran I'll continue to get hit all night.
I'm not in high cycle now but keep o2 & Imigran on standby at all times.

Cheers
Barry

Last night went well so I didn't need to take trex. I had a small attack at 9 and with the O2 it was gone in 5 minutes, and I didn't have another one until 6:30 this morning that was the same...5 minutes on O2 and it was gone.
I'm just happy I'm getting the sleep I needed.

It sure does. Even if I got a real bad attack right now I could handle it better than if I could being tired. Not that I want a bad one right now lol

Well, not much to report. I went all day yesterday, and all night without a CH. I know tonight could be hell, but  Cheesy

Just checked in on you ... Glad to see you're getting some rest. Have you tried the melatonin at night? I've been on it for years and the rest at night I've been getting helps with the days.

Wish you could have made convention -- lots of help there.

Give me an update...

Hugs BD Kiss
