Has 'the beast' ever changed sides during a cycle?
Aug 2nd, 2009 at 6:47pm

Hi,

Over the last three days, the attacks have subsided somewhat and left me with constant shadows. This is normal for me during cycle, however, over the last week, pains on the other side of my head are emerging. I've got the 'sore neck spot' on the other side as of today and am getting shadows on that side now as well as the other (although far less frequent).

Was wondering if anyone has experienced this and if so how did it happen? Thanks for any help..had a hell of a week and not sure if I could handle double sided attacks-if thats possible. Maybe its time to give my poor right side a break...

Poor you. ((Hugs))

Recently my other temple vien has started to pulsate during an attack like my painful side does but it doesn't hurt.

However, if it's of any help, I don't think what you are saying is uncommon - the pain side can change. Well that what a neuro told me a few days ago the other day away.

Sorry for the lame answer  Roll Eyes

I've experienced side-switching and double-sided hits over the years - they are ugly but nothing to really worry about.

Most of the time mine are on the left side, however there are occasions it has switched to my right side, the right sided ones are usually a bit less intense and shorter  in duration.

The answer to your question in a word... YES

To go with the others, YES, they can and do switch sides for some.  It is not really as rare as some people think it is ...

Some say that the "odd" side is not as severe, yet others say that the "ODD" side is much worse ... Like everything else with the beast, it is different for each of us.

I have had them on both sides for several years, now.  I never know which side it is going to be on.  For me, the intensity is the same regardless of the side that it is on.  And yes, I have had several attacks where it hit on both sides at once.  THOSE are the worst!

One thing that has been happening the past 8 to 10 months, is that I will feel some pain across the full forehead, so I don't know which side is gong to get hit.  Then after a few minutes, it goes to one side or the other.  It is almost as if the beast doesn't know which side to go on, and looks for the side with the least resistance, at that particular time.

Anyhow, it is not anything to worry about.

I am also the same. In the same cycle, the HA moves to the right for a day then goes back to the left for the majority of the time. The left is where the beast hits with the worst pain for me too.

This was a reason I thought it might not be CH, but then I realised it is possible (unfortunately!)

My bout for 3 months on the left side has ended, and since then the bout on the right side has started for over a month now. How about that?!!

When I was young it used to be on the left side only, but I got used to the right side thing as well. The beast is equally painful on both side, even though I'd say it could be slightly more painful on the original (left) side than the odd. Problem is that it is more frequent on the odd side.
