Chantix and Verapamil
Aug 4th, 2009 at 12:15am

My doc prescribed Chantix to aid in smoking cessation. I can't find anything in a search for interactions between my Verapamil and the Chantix.

Has anyone heard bad things about this combo? I'd hate to pay for this pricy Chantix and not be able to take it.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Going broke from smokes.

Eric

Your druggist is likely to be more up to date on interactions than your doc.

Checked a couple of sources (UptoDate, ePocrates) and came up with nothing as far as drug interactions are concerned.  Can't think of anything off the top of my head that would lead to an interaction, either.  Of course, everybody's different and, like Bob said, probably wouldn't hurt to ask your pharmacist.

I think your biggest concern will be with the side effects of Chantix.  It makes a lot of people nauseous and can mess with your head (psychologically, that is).  I would hope that your CHs are under control before you start; otherwise the combination of the two may make continuing Chantix difficult.

Best of luck with the cessation!

I don't know about the interactions of verapamil and chantix either, but I tried chantix a couple of years ago and must admit for the two weeks taken it did work well on curbing my desire to smoke even the physchological ones.  However I was out of cycyle (I'm episodic) and I had a weird headache the entire two weeks so I feared I might jump back into cycle so I stopped taking and of course never quit smoking.  I do know people who are not CH sufferers that have had good success with chantix. I wish you well if you give it go and maybe you will have none of the side affects. I did not have the nausea some people complained of and is adverstised as a side affect.

I started Chantix a little over two months ago toward the back half of a cluster and can't say it has effected my CH issues one way or another. I have had the easiest quit smoking experience in my history.    I occasionally miss taking a Chantix and get that old twinge that says, where are my Nat Shermans?
I've decided to go for the full six month Chantix program.  I loved smoking and loved it for over forty years.
One of the most common reported Chantix side effects are very vivid dreams.  If you previously tended toward bad dreams, that can be a problem.  If you previously had good dreams, perhaps involving you and Maria Sharapova, then you are going to LOVE Chantix.

Can't speak to the drug interaction issues.
