Pics From Monday's Film Shoot
Aug 20th, 2009 at 5:15pm

I just got these from Noelle, the producers gf. They shot my scenes for the "Zombie Epidemic" movie which I am also doing the soundtrack for. I had a blast and am completely taken aback by all of this for a reason I'll mention in a moment but first....

Dr Herald Brockhouse with a freshly turned 'creature'.

This all came about at a very strange time. I had been talking about doing something else musically, maybe try to score a film or something. Now, this is where it gets weird: I ate at the Great Wall chinese restaurant here in town awhile back and got a fortune from a cookie I kept. It is now taped to my puter monitor:
"An Interesting Musical Opportunity Is In Your Near Future."
The following week I had been contacted by 3 different production companies, and this movie "Zombie Epidemic" winds up having ties to various people I know, including the band P.O.W.E.R.T.R.I.P. whom I am good friends with, and they all have a scene in the movie as well. I was approached about doing the soundtrack, and jumped on it! Right now I have a couple of pieces done and am working on the rest, and it is just flowing... hard to explain. After the shoot Monday, we came back here and the producer/ writer Corey listened to what I have done, and loved it. So, since I know I am going in the right direction musically with the project, I am more than excited.

ANOTHER interesting opportunity came when I was asked to do an acoustic version of the song I recorded about Clusters, "I Wake Up Screaming" for a benefit CD for breast cancer research. I started to do it, but was like, "How do I capture the same emotion and feel of the song acoustically, since it is very angry?" About that time I got a call asking for me to instead send the electric version I already had recorded since it fell between a hard rock song and a thrash metal song. So, with my new soundcard and new effects plugins, I remixed the entire song and it turned out 110 times BETTER sounding than the original. The old mix the bass was flat and tinny - this mix you can feel the bass, and the guitars and drums are clear and punchy. I sent the mix in and the guy putting the project together freaked on the difference in the sound quality. The disc is set to release early fall, and I am proud to be part of the project.

So, I find it bizarre that this 'fortune cookie' taped to my monitor touched exactly on what I am doing now. I am hoping that this first soundtrack will get me many more jobs, since I am pushing 40 and as I see it, with my situation I'd be better off making music 'behind the scenes.' Also, from what I understand there is a great demand for composers / musicians in the film industry, and Danny Elfman can only do so much.

Anyways, that's whats been going on here. I will still record my music under the name "Dead Cowboy Rebellion" but may have stumbled into a new career scoring films. Crossing my fingers.

Peace,
Carl

Well if you got hit during the scene, it looks like there were plenty of 02 around.

Corey saw all of my o2 tanks and asked if we could use a couple of them for props and I said "Sure."
But yeah, no fear getting hit on THAT job scene.  Wink
