What do you think about 'Big Brother'?
Sep 2nd, 2009 at 2:10pm

Season 5 of the TV show Big Brother is now in its day 9 and second week.

This is the very first time I'm watching the show and I only do that because of a personal reason. I have been avoiding the show in the past, because back in here it's been mostly about free drinks and such, which is not entertainment to me.

But this time around I cannot escape it. It's everywhere and my mother, family and friends are all glued to their TV screens, one cousin even bought a digi-box so that she can see the show! It's madness....

I hear that some countries are wise enough to call it quits and cancel the show. But what do you think: rubbish voyerism or the best reality show ever?

I'm curious... Smiley

The minute a "country" decides to cancel a show is the minute you know you're living under a totalitarian regime.

As to the show itself, I haven't seen it. It sounds like The Truman Show to me.

Jayne was in the final interview for Big Brother. In that interview she explained she had clusterheadaches and would be having to take an imetrex injection when she felt one coming on. She was hoping they would find it interesting, and just think of the exposure to our plight if it had happened.

But...she didn't make the final cut.

Watched the first season and was done with it.

Mad Men has to be the best for me. Excuse me while I get my pregnant wife a bottle of Vodka and a carton of Lucky Strikes. Wink

I haven't seen it either. Where do I look?

Like Jeff, I'm into Mad Men. It's a trip to the good old days where you could smoke on airplanes, while wearing your Arnold Palmer sweater, and we were still a long way from Disco.

Big brother
fear factor
moment of truth
Tongue

what kind of people come up with these ideas?
You can't even see a decent show with knowledge questions and a reasonable prize anymore.
if the candidates are not humiliated somehow
the show doesn't worth it.

so i guess i think No. Undecided

Thank you for you posts.

Today, the show made its "big" twist: they divided the contestants into two camps, Paradise and Slum. This will continue for the rest of the season - or until Big Brother decides otherwise.

I cannot tell you how much compassion I feel towards those 7 people who are now living in Slum. I know that their conditions are great in comparison to the real slums, but still. The whole gang had to stay up for the most of the night before because of a long task (which was stupid indeed; they had to cut heck of a lot of wires and recycle them basically) and all the sleep they got was outside - during rain.

Okay... If those people would be a bunch of strangers, I probably would still care, but, like I mentioned, I have a personal reason to care. That makes all the difference in the world.

Here's the "huge" revelation: my boyfriend is one of the contestants.

But I don't know for how long, because today begun the first eviction voting (or whatever you call it) and he is among the three contestants who are nominated to be evicted on Sunday.

That's all.

Sanna

Thanks, Jeff! Smiley

Currently my boyfriend is fans' favourite - but do those people also vote? Nobody knows. I just hope that he will find out what he went there to find out before he's voted out. Many BB fans have begun their support posts at message boards, which is brilliant! Smiley

Right now many people are turning against BB as a program, because they do not like the Paradise/Slum - thing at all. In the new rules only the inhabitants of the Slum will be punished when someone breaks the rules and today they had their first punishment: they had to stand in circle and pass on papers! That task lasted for 4 hours, some of it during rain, and the contestants were not allowed to have a break nor eat, just go to the bathroom or diary room.

Let's see what will happen on Sunday...

That's right, Mel and Barry. Smiley

He is in the BB House and today is day 13 out of 97.

He is in the Slum and has gained a nickname from the show's fans: Slumdog Millionaire. Wink He's been keeping the spirits up in the Slum, which is not exactly easy, considering that many of his co-inhabitants are the biggest complainers (wonder why they are in the Slum...?).

I'm proud of him. I would have never applied to the show myself, but he has been himself in there, all the time. He is probably the only one who is actually enjoying himself in the Slum; to him it's just a weekend at a summer cottage. Many summer cottage conditions are similar; outdoor rest room, cold water, soups for lunch and dinner.

I believe that he will be fine in there. But how long will he be there, no idea.

So do I! Smiley

And by the way: my boyfriend is still in the game. Apparently he wasn't even close to be evicted! Smiley That means that his fans are actually also voting...

So the game continues - which means that I'll be watching until he is voted out of the house.
