effectiveness of imitrex inhaler vs. injection
Sep 7th, 2009 at 1:53pm

Who has tried both and come up with impressions of whether the inhaler can compete with the injection for effectiveness?

I've been a die hard injection user for 2 reasons:

1) With the injection I can take half doses (and they work).

2) I've never tried the inhaler and I don't want to find out the hard way that it isn't effective.

BUT.....

I'm looking at the prospect here of running out of injections,  unless some kind of extreme all out effort results in my being able to acquire some in a so far unforeseen way.

There are some inhalers on hand here that I could try though....

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

I currently use both.

In my experience the inhaler is not as affective as the injection.  The inhaler takes longer to work than the injection and I am usually left with shadows after using the inhaler, not so with the injections.

The inhaler does work better if you can get it in at the 1st signs of a hit!!  If the CH hits are milder the inhaler works ok but still takes a bit longer and as I said tends to leave shadows in place for longer.

I only use the inhaler when I am running low on injections or IF I can tell it's going to be a milder hit.  My doc gave them to me as back up since my ins. will only allow so many shots per mo.

How fast does injection work? I only used in my 10 years career (4 episodes so far) twice triptan tablet.

Though it worked after 24-30 minutes, was Cinie and Sumamigren.

What is the time on nasal sprayer and injection? What are the fastest ways of breaking CH?

The injection works in about 5 minutes for me, no matter when I take it.

The nasal sprayer, i would guess wouldnt be as fast, naturally, but even so
it didnt do a thing for me, period.

Imitrex injection works with in 5 minutes usually for me depending on the severity of the hit and when I take the shot.

Imitrex nasal if taken right away at 1st signs of hit takes about 10 min. or more to work, again this depends on the severity of the hit and when taken.

I have had the nasal inhaler take 20 min. to take the edge off a bad one and then I didn't feel like myself again for 5 frickin hours. Roll Eyes Speech and thinking were impaired and I walked around in a fog like this at Work mind you for 5 hours.

Keep in mind each of us is different and it may or may not work the same for you.
