I was lucky enough to find this site today after suffering with this condition for twenty years, I now know what to call it.. After a short break (about a year) the demons are back.. I started having the pain again two weeks ago. This past weekend was the worst. I had to leave work Sat & Sun around the same time both days because the pain was so bad. and both nights almost exactly 12 hours later I had the same recurring headaches , The one on Sunday lasted from 2pm until 11pm and then at 3 am this morning it was back. All day I have felt the underlying pressure but no pain, I have a question, when the headaches ease, does anyone else ever feel little "pops" in your head? Maybe that seems silly but that is one of the weird feelings I have .

Please take the "cluster quiz" (link on left) and let us know how you do.

Also, look at the "cluster traits" link and "the kip scale" and see how they relate to you and your pain.

Have you been diagnosed with CH? If so, what meds have you tried that did/didn't work.

The more info you give us, the better. If it is CH . . . you've come to the right place. If not, we'll still try and help. Members here have a variety of ha's besides CH and there is much info available to you.

I personally don't recall the "pops" symptom being mentioned . .. but that doesn't mean others haven't.

Thanks so much for your replies. I took the quiz and my answers were yes on 8-16, Yes on number 8 because I get really hot when I have these headaches and its causes the nausea. I have not yet been daignosed, as I have no health insurance and do not regulary go to the doctor. I think I will be going to the ER with my next headache because it seems each one is getting more severe. The one at 5 am this morning lasted over 2 hours, between an 8-9 on the scale, it was the most severe this time around and even now there is some residual pain. I have tried over the counter meds and stuff like head on and nothing is working. Thanks for everything. Its great having a place to discuss this.

Get down to the grocery store and buy a couple of energy drinks, Monster, Rock Star, just make sure they contain the combination of Caffeine and Taurine. Many find they can abort or substantially reduce the intensity of an attack by rapidly chugging one of those at the first sign of an attack. Some keep open cans in the fridge while on cycle so they lose their fizz and chug quicker!

Certainly not a substitute for a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan, but might help you through some attacks. The ER tends to be a really poor place to get help for these as they rush people in and out, treating only acute symptoms. CH needs a good diagnosis to eliminate any more sinister issues, then a two pronged treatment approach, a good preventative med to reduce the number and intensity of your attacks, and some type of abortive regimen, (ie oxygen, imitrex), to stop actual attacks.

Wishing you a short go around this cycle.

Could you elaborate a little more on this "pops" feeling. This may be what we call shadows. This is a far less intense headache, although they can linger on a lot longer than the normal stronger ones. Personally, my head would feel very tender almost bruised after a very strong attack...Not nice...!
