OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCK...ANYONE ELSE LIKE IT?
Nov 23rd, 2009 at 4:54am

I am now going bi-weekly to get an "occipital-nerve block"
it does not take away the pain but dulls it immensely! ANd it will lessen future attacks for me too. Just thought that i would share that!

Thanks for sharing.

What are they injecting for the block? Steroids or just an anesthetic?

You should talk to (or read posts by) Wildhaus.  He thoroughly documented his experiences of getting regular blocks.  He had long-term effects on the body of having multiple occipital nerve blocks after injecting steroids with the lidocaine - which is the standard block.  I suggest getting in touch...   It was a bit alarming to read about to me.  Most effects seemed to be reversible over time with much effort (meds, and dr. visits - specialists), but not worth it to meee..

Val you forgot fact that Wildhaus wrote in his thread, that it is because he was really prone to having ostheoporoshis or arthisis, was it.

He stated that for others it would be safe option.

Nope, didn't see a thing about him being prone to osteoporosis - if you have this info from other than his three threads on GON Blocks, I have no knowledge of it.  This is what he wrote - "I was told that the cortisone treatment effects my bones and with very high likelihood has caused Osteoporosis....", though yes, he did mention that it might be a good alternative, just not for him.  The key term is Might, and I feel that people should be aware of what others have gone through, that is all!   Wink  I simply stated that kelkel might want to read about the 10 shots in 8 months and the results as they are going bi-weekly, and that I would not do it over and over.  I like to read about others experiences, and that is what was being asked for!!

I think I red somewhere, it is not option for him, but for someone else it may be good choice too.

Still I think GON block is only test before going occipital stimulator

Actually the effectiveness (or not) of the occipital nerve block is not considered a predictor of whether or not occipital nerve stimulation would (or would not) work.  The mechanism of actions are different, and the theories behind the treatment are different.  They just both involve the occipital nerve.

Hello all,

Mj it was just an anestetic not steroids. Val and Matty thank you for the info but I was unable to find that thread.
I have decided to hold off on the blocks after the first one this time around. I have started a treatment of tomapax "dopamax" lol
and I want to see how this works on its own with out interference from any other agents. But I would still ove to find that thread in case I need the injections later on.

Hey Kelkel, I searched and found for you the thread made my Wildhaus about the occipital nerve block, updated over long time frame of months, read up on it for few evenings, if you feel like it Smiley

First link is from old forums and it is start of thread and description from wildhaus, second link is continuation as new CH board has been launched and you could not post on old one anymore, only browse and read it.
