Melatonin guidance needed.
Dec 8th, 2009 at 10:46pm

So I absolutely and desperately need some sleep.
Got some Melatonin how much do ya all need to get fast results.
I have not used it before.

Will I die if I use 9 mg or be just fine?
Does it help right away or take some time.
Though it helps many with sleep can it be used while being hit hard or will it just make things less bearable?
Can I take it having used seeds a few days ago with no results.?

I think the melatonin will block the effect of the seeds if you take it up to 5 days before taking the seeds. I don't think it works the other way around.

Many people report having to use it for a few days before it works as a sleep aid. I found it to work right away. I started at 3mg, sometimes bump it up to 6mg if I'm shadowing, and when I'm in full cycle, I use 9mg.

You aren't going to OD on it.

I don't know how big of a guy you are, but I'm thinking you may want to start the first night with 6mg. Go to 9mg the second night if it doesn't help. Good luck - you'll be in my thoughts. I do know what you're going through.

Hi Brew,

I am a supporter looking for any info on melatonin. Do you get rebound headaches or any other side effects? My guy seriously needs some sleep. I am trying to get him to take melatonin even if it's just for one uninterupted night sleep. I've taken only 3mgs for jetlag. I would think 6 or 9mgs would knock him on his butt for the night. Any advice?

Debbie

I use 9 mg 1 hour before bed and have no side effects what so ever.

I also use iy out of cycle if I need a night of quality sleep.

No rebounds. The only side effect I've ever experienced was feeling somewhat drunk if I got a nighttime hit and I was in the full throes of its effects.

As I stated above, some people have to take it for a few days before it becomes effective. I take it throughout my cycle because I've found that it will actually eliminate some of the nighttime hits.

I took 9mg of melatonin before bed that night.
within 10 minutes I was hit with a doozy. 1.5 hours later went to sleep and I did get a full 2 hours sleep which was very much needed.
After those 2 hours It was non stop CH for the next 16 hours untill all the mel wore off.. Dirty nasty hits at the extremes like swimming upstream in a tornado for 5 miles in a thick muddy polluted river with unseen forces gnawing on my head.

I prefer the effect of standing on a hill on a clear dark night being blasted by lightning with nothing to muddy up the pain.

I now remember why I stayed med free all those years when something as mild as melatonin can do that.
But I did get that sleep and a renewed outlook as to how exquisite and pure the pain can be when left alone. I can deal with it again.  Thanks for being there Brew.

When in cycle, I take 1=2 mg sublingual(melts under tongue) melatonin to send me to sleep and 6-9 mg time-released melatonin to keep me there.  I find the time-release to be the key to a longer sleep relief, I believe what the melatonin does is prevent me from entering a certain sleep cycle that triggers the CH.

Wow, sorry to hear about your night, MJ. I certainly can't explain it. I've only ever heard of melatonin having either a positive effect or no effect at all.

Maybe it's something you'll want to pursue when you're out of cycle so you can better gauge its effects long term. Hang in there.

I have a love/hate relationship with Melatonion.

You will not die with an overdose of Mel, I tried.  I think I got up over 35mg. ACCIDENTLY.

Hurt my tummy.
