Thousands...
Dec 12th, 2009 at 7:21pm

...of Canadian Geese flying over today.  Vee after vee of Greater Canadas.  I'm guessing that the snow and cold has been driving them down.  Many, many more than the resident geese we normally see.

Weird.  When I was a kid, it used to be quite an occasion to see a flock of wild geese--something people would look up and remark upon.  These days, they're as common as flies.

Times must be good in the goose world.

Best,

George

George - we have a lot of them that stay here even through the snow and ice of winter.

We have a wooded ravine with a river running through it at the back of our property.  When those birds decide to start yapping at one another - the noise is unreal!

They bring their babies right up into our back yard in the spring.  It's like their showing off like all proud parents.

Polar Bears in Alaska have increased from 10,000 to 25,000. One of Al Gore's little Global Warming secrets. Ice is 4 meters thick instead of the 2 meters they always predict too. They keep telling me its getting warmer, and the ice sheet has been getting bigger and faster each year.

Like Pat Buchanan...who said yesterday that for the first time in recorded history we now have an open northwest passage, silver linings for all.

Do you know why when geese are flying in their Vee's one leg of the V is longer?

There're more geese on that side! Grin

Ornithophiles can be a little odd.  They don't call them "twitchers" for nothing.   Wink

You can keep them down south! They think they own the place up here in the summer. Walking across the road by the dozen, taking there time as you sit in your car itching to run them over.....

I'm not out in this cold much but saw a V yesterday and in a brief minute outside, heard one in darkness about 10pm on the move overhead last night.  Funny thing was their direction wasn't south.  Probably just flowing with the wind, maybe in no hurry, might be bearable for them here yet.   I scooted inside.
