Slightly embarrassing.....
Dec 13th, 2009 at 8:01pm

I know this has been brought up before but I am having a heck of a time with my Verapamil.  It was recently increased form 360mg  to 540mg daily.  Sheesh... I thought things were moving SLOW before!!!!

I'm wondering if natural things such as increased fiber will do the trick?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

An embarrassed,

Jeannie

Don't worry Jeannie.  I've heard it mentioned on here a few times.  I too get that way too.  I eat FiberOne products everyday 2x a day and every couple of days or so I take a mild laxative.  The kind that take overnight or so.

Keep smiling, it's ok.  We all understand.

Mirlax did wonders for me,  It was a perscription med and now you can get it over the counter.  Doesnt taste bad either.

This is what I take to keep the plumbing working. I eat 1/4 bowl every morning and it works very well with the Verapamil. Smiley

Verap can lock you up tighter than Fort Knox.  You can try some of the above suggestions but if push comes to grunt, ask your doc for some industrial strength cleaner.

Looks like we go full circle with this disease.  You need clusters to cure the cluster b(ow)lues.

Milk of magnesia, the Philips or store brand. Works mildly overnight. I've used the Miralax too, it was a little slow for me.

Hope everything comes out OK. (oops), Don

Jeannie and any one else using Verapamil as a preventative I just want to add that my neuro told me not to eat or drink grapefruit as it can enhance the effects of the Verap.
Also energy drinks such as RedBull are a no-no when taking Verap.

My verapamil bottle always has a sticker on it telling me to stay away from grapefruit.

Energy drinks with taurine aren't necessarily a no-no - but you should limit your intake of taurine while taking it. Too much can mess with heart rhythms in combination with verapamil. I keep it to one can a day - sometimes two if I'm in a bad way, but not too often.

Thanks, I knew about the grapefruit.  I also limit my energy drinks to only two a day while on Verap.

Isn't this condition fun!?

I am brain dead at the moment, but a supplement Batch recommended for PH balance which is zinc, magnezium and one other (I just take one pill with all combined every day and at this moment have forgotten the third). Obviously you can buy each separately but for my purposes easier to have in one tablet.  The key being the magnezium.  Trust me if you take a magnezium supplement tablet you won't be moving slow and should you accidentally over indulge I suggest you that you not venture too far from you nearest water closet or you next post may be My Most Embarrassing Moment.

I’ve been at 720mg Verapamil daily for quite some time now.

I’ve found that drinking sufficient water - 8 to 10 16oz glasses over the course of each day (more if exercise causes you to sweat), while incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables (cooked and raw) into the diet works well.

No other products are needed if I keep well irrigated and eat the things I’m supposed to be eating anyway.

Just wanted to add....If you're like me and take a cholesterol meds like zocor or lipitor, remember not to ingest ANYTHING with any kind of grapefruit in it. It can be a deadly combination.
