I'm with you, Johnny.  He should be damned glad he's got a job.

I just read the news release about Arrow...now that is just pitiful and soooo wrong.  Treating employees like that should be against the law!  Angry

I thought the DOT had rules about how many hours a driver could be on the clock before taking a mandatory 8-hour break.

He should stop his bitchin'. Mother government is already looking out for him (and the people he might have otherwise run over).

I'm sure my ex-boss who was fired on Monday would give anything to go back to working her 14-16 hour days (including weekends) without overtime because she is salaried.

I may be wrong (cant' find any documentation), but I believe that the max a trucker can drive before he takes an 8 hour break is 10 hours.

The Con-way drivers who handle my battery shipments have been telling me that the competition is getting tough out there. They respond by further improving their customer service!

My new company is still small but growing fast by selling a hell of a lot of big batteries (Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register) We only do a few thousand dollars a month in freight with them, but Con-way has gained me as a loyal customer because they truly work hard to earn our business. Some other larger LTL guys couldn't give a damn.

I think that the current economic climate is making people remember how important good customer service is with commodity markets and services.

These are the kinds of companies that will survive.

In years past, Yellow had a large contract hauling for Chrysler.  Could be that contract was cancelled with the automaker changing hands, and maybe left unpaid for a lot of services.  Noticeable for awhile because the name Yellow was on each truck and they were painted bright orange.

Congrats on the budding enterprise, Marc.

D.O.T requires a driver to stop driving after 14 hours of being on duty not to exceed 60 hours in 5 days or 80 hours in 7. however after 14 hours a driver can work on the dock as long as he can. a driver must have at least 10 hours off duty bfore returning to duty status. when a driver hits the dock at conway its overtime. the old guy that was bitching makes over $30 to have to hang around a few extra hours. con-way is a non union company. the ones that bitch never had to put up with the kinda shit i put up with out over the road. there are very few guys at conway that bitch or complain. the ones that never lived in a truck can be somewhat  temperamental.

besides that after the first of the year everything gets slow for just about everybody. the way i see it, its a golden opportunity and i am very fortunate to be at conway

From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
Quote:
Schneider reaches out to stranded truckers

By Don Walker of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Dec. 24, 2009 7:46 a.m.

Schneider National, the Green-Bay based trucking firm, is offering rides home to stranded truckers formerly employed by Arrow Trucking.

Arrow, based in Tulsa, Okla., shut down its headquarters and pulled the fuel cards used by its network of truckers scattered around the country. Reports say as many as 1,400 truckers are stranded.

With truckers stranded, some competitors, including Schneider National, are offering to give the Arrow truckers a ride home.

Schneider employs nearly 13,000 truckers and operates 24 operating centers across the country.
