morphine is very addictive and you really do not want to go that route. Narcotics rarely help people with ch. Most the time it is a waste of time. A dr gave me morphine instead of o2 once in the er. It just made me higher than a kite, sicker than a dog, and I still had a kip10.

Since this is your first post what meds are you taking to abort/stop your ch from occuring? And what preventatives are you on long term? Have you tried oxygen? Check out the link on the button to the left side of the screen. Try imitrex nasal spray or shot. Zomig, axert, frova, amerge. These can all stop ch in there tracks. Try verapamil, lithium, elavil, zyprexa, topamax to prevent the cycle from happening and stop the ch from occuring. There are many more meds to try than this but it is a start. So many choices and no need for narcotics.

believe id stay well away from the narcotics for ch...i did that once at the er..and on top of my head/eye about to explode..was sick as a dog(learned real quick i cannot take morphine after puking my guts up ON the dr). the morphine did not take the pain away. i said at that point going to the er was USELESS because i could help myself through it better than those "qualified" could.

Methadone is the only drug that has brought any lasting relief outside of the major psychedelics. Most of the standard CH remedies had for Michael an initial benefit but it was quickly lost. The cost in using Methadone is addiction, constipation and an addled psychology. We'll deal with those when we get a steady supply of psychedelics or when something like BOL is readily available.

Years ago a family member died of cancer. She was on morphine during her last days. My cycle was at its peak when she passed away. I wasn't still properly diagnosed with CHs but nowadays I know I was having nice Kip 8ths and 9ines two to three times a day. In short, I commandeered all of the medicines left behind her...

What a disappointment it was! During one particular attack I exceeded the maximum dose (as written in the flyer that comes with a package) by a factor of 5. All it did was to make me nauseous as hell with heavy unpleasant buzz. But the pain was EVEN SHARPER!!

Never again! I am aware that people react differently to different medications. However, all my research and the personal experience lead me to believe that the opiates are poor choice for controling cluster headaches. Not only because of the potential addiction but simply because they don't work.
