hello! I just joined this site and am happy i have people who could relate to cluster headaches! i am in my second week of my cluster period! I am on pretnisone and verapamil! we will see.... i take sumatritan and 500 mg  of naproxen at the beginning stages of an episode and if caught in time usually helps the severity and the length of the episode! really sucks to have this condition!

It makes me sad you had to find this site. I too am a newbie and have just got over my first (and last I hope) four weeks of 2-3 times/night of attacks. This site is a good site to learn and share. From what I have seen on this site and from my own experience I would have one other abortive item- that being 02 at 10-12 lpm thru a non rebreather mask. The triptan drugs worked for me also but were rather expensive and a bit dangerous. I got the 02 only during the last week of my cycle but it aborted or lessened the duration of an attack if done at a high enough flow rate and thru a non rebreather. Good Luck

You've overstayed your welcome since the day we met but it doesn't seem to matter to you.  No medications are your master, nothing makes you fret, it's a helpless feeling having nothing I can do

Welcome to the board! Do read the oxygen info on the left. 31 year sufferer here and i can abort in less then 10 minutes using oxygen. A real life saver.

Hey Anthony,

Is that the pill form of imitrex (sumatriptan) you're taking? Asking because doctors routinely and mistakenly prescribe pill form, which is more for migraine, and is much less effective for CH than injectible or even inhaler.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

That is not always a mistake and is effective and desirable for many CH sufferers. The pill form can be just as effective. The differance is in the delivery and time it takes to abort.
