I was sitting right here and didn't feel it. Guess it's too "normal", ha!

Thanks for letting us know you are alright.  I will have to call my son.  It was his first big quake I think since he has been stationed in SD.

Shit, -20 degrees and a 30 mph wind is more hospitable than the earth moving.

Give me a hurricane any day.  At least I *know* where it is and can get away before it gets to me.

Might even take a tornado, but those suckers are awful scary, because you don't *know* where they are going.

Nope

Until you get above about 7.0 to 7.5. Anything in the 5.0 to 6.5 range is actually fun and interesting to watch - seriously.

Sort of feels like being upstairs and somebody stomping down the hallway and slammin doors. No big deal, kind of fun, in a sick sort of way. A tickle the tummy deal.

Of course like Marc said, you get up over 7 and then you have some hell raising going on.

We had a little quake about a year ago.  I think it was a 6 something..... a real big deal around here.  I was lying in bed and I heard the windows start rattling.  Then my bed started shaking and I was scared !   I didn't like it one bit!  AND I would NOT like to do it again.

ohhh!! fEELING SOMEWHAT NOSTALGIC!
Guess I've had enough experience with EQs, although tornadoes and the like scare the stuffing out of me!
Yeahh, like Marc said, the higher the score, the worse they are, exponentially.....the Santa Clarita 6.8 was the one that cut freeway off from the rest of Los Angeles County. Aftershocks in the 6's sent us under our desks-and that was probably a week after the big one!
Still and all, if it's your first, it's scary! Mad scary!
As  a seasoned EQ'r, I think my son said it best, as he watched the water slop out ONE side of our pool, then out the OTHER side..he yelled ....."surf's up duuude!"

Boy Scout reminder for you all.........BE PREPARED!!!

Cathi-safe in Oregon, in the snow....... Wink

I can deal with rain, wind, ooodles of snow, snizzle, sub zero temps, and tornados.

But the ground under my feet must never move. . . . (shudder)

Christy and Marc are correct.  Us Californians hardly even notice them.  Now Tornados and Hurricanes are another story.  They happen every year and are killers.

all sounds a bit scary to me . last one we had made the roller doors on our workshop rattle for a bout 5 minutes . when your working up there on your own it a bit erey, any way that was about 14 years ago .

The last proper earth quake round these parts was about 1850 and if i remember my history right it was a 7.3 and it did a lot of damage but hurt no one .

I have been in several above 6.0.  1971 LA San Fernando quake which was 6.6.  1980 Eureka quake, which was 7.2.  1989 Loma Prieta, which was 6.9 but did a lot of damage.

Gotta admit, I've had great luck being in the right place at the right time.  You heard me right.  I actually love it when the Earth moves like that, and I have been in countless smaller quakes.

Usually when it happens, I feel a huge rush of energy right before and long after the shaking.  It is hard to explain, but undeniable.  I think this is why I'm *always* awake when they hit.  Almost all of them have been rolling, shaking type of movement, maybe like being on a boat in a storm.  A couple have been downright violent.  In LA we were in a high rise building and the building swayed so much I thought it was going to break (that scared me).  It swayed for a long time, (5-6 minutes).  In Eureka, transformers we exploding because the power lines were crossing (that can scare you!)  But mostly they are very enjoyable and usually there is no loss of life of very little.  Of course, the big ones have tragic results, but I would take an earthquake over a hurricane , flood or tornado any day.
