Just hello
Jan 17th, 2010 at 3:29pm

I'm a 48 year old man and I've been getting these excruciating headaches for about 30 years (I'm lucky if I get a completely clear week). Most of the time it doesn't reach maximum and I've learned to function with it but maybe 5 or six times a year it goes all the way to unbearable and stays there for 2-3 days. I've never been diagnosed until yesterday, when my darling wife over-ruled me and called in the medics (I'd been before but it was always after the event). 5 hours in A&E and finally the on-call doctor arrived from housecalls; put me on oxygen. Took me all the way down to maybe K3 in ten minutes. Then he told me he thought I had cluster headaches. I'd never heard of them but have spent today at K3-K4 looking into it and my god, how many boxes do I tick? Doctor tomorrow and on to neurology. I'm so glad I have found you guys. I'm not alone

Be sure to work closely with your doctor. If you mean that the pain peaks and stays there for 2-3 days, this would not be a description of Cluster Headaches.

Hi & welcome...

take a look at the cluster quiz to the left hand of your screen and this will give you a better notion of the symptoms associated with CH's. I would also gather as much information from the site and take this to your neuro.

Good Luck...!

No Marc, I don't mean the pain stays at its peak for 2-3 days; more that the worst part of it lasts for that timeframe. The pain itself comes in waves. I've got my referral today so we should start getting some answers hopefully. Thanks for your concern.

Welcome to the forum......curious as to how the doctor administered the oxygen. (And also amazed you lucked out and found a doc who knows about 02!!!)

Do take a minute and read the oxygen info tab on the left. The more "correctly" you use it, the faster your abort times will be. I can abort an attack....be completely pain free....in as little as 6-8 minutes using just oxygen. Been a miracle abortive for many on the board.

Good luck on your diagnostic journey. If it's confirmed as CH, don't lose this sight. We'll do all we can to get you going in the right direction. Good luck!

Joe
