You are not alone.

The are some of us that feel the Oil and Automotive industries have colluded to keep MPG in vehicles down.

In the 80's Honda had a 50+ MPG car but the newer ones are heavier and can only dream of that kind of mileage. Of course in the age of SUV's no one wants a small car out there with people who can't drive a heavy truck.

When the recent gas crunch hit, automotive manufacturers were able to increase 3 to 5 MPG just using computer tweaks. Why didn't they do this before?

Granted the old values were high and could only be achieved with a skilled driver. It makes newer cars look more efficient because the old ones were never retested.

You have to be careful comparing European Values to American ones as the imperial gallon is larger than the American one. You need to find liters per kilometer and convert from that.
