Full spectrum daylight lamps
Feb 13th, 2010 at 11:38pm

Hello everybody.

I promissed to relate the experience of using full spectrum daylight lamps, so I report.

My last cycle started at october 2008 ended at june 2009, too late, the expected end was february 2009.
I installed three lamps "energy saving" each 23W real, 100W equivalent, 1170 lumens. This gives a total of 3510 lux of a full spectrum light. The idea was to make the body think winter has not even come ....

This is the first year in last ten I have not one crisis, no cycle, usually starting last october, finishing february. Nothing of all this year. Now the conditions:

- I work for at least ten hours/day in the room I installed the light.
- Last cycle retarded its end 4 months, so it's possible it's now too early to a new cycle.
- No changes at all in my life style, eating ...

I can't know if the lamps have done some work at this point, I just report, and, by the way, it's a very good light, very similar to day light, and my eyes, no doubt, have been very relaxed this test-time.

Regards. Gonzalo.

Using light in the day to help normalize the circadian cycles is generally a good idea (along with enforced darkness at night). So is sleep hygiene -  I use melatonin at the same time every night when I get the warning signs of a cycle coming on - e.g., I take melatonin at exactly 10:00 pm and make sure I am in bed with lights out at 10:30. ... that seems to be a good preventive for me.

The outer boundary of what we currently believe is feasible is far short of what we actually must do.

Really hope this works for you- my experience has been that it doesn't matter how much sun I get. If I'm in cycle I'm in cycle- even in the summer when I'm outside most of the day. I love to garden and to ride bikes ,so I am outside for prolonged periods of time ( just to be clear ). This includes being on bike tours and being on a bike for up to 7 hours a day.
