They came marching in.
Feb 16th, 2010 at 6:24am

Woke to an early call enlisting in the little battle of keeping poonchskis(?) at bay.  Nabbed a couple of their fresh front line best.  Took many prisoners for workplace, crowded in boxed-up containment, to meet their fate.

Polish pastries, very similar to a jelly-filled doughnut, but the filling is prune preserves. Yummy, yummy stuff!

My pleasure.

(Here's my little secret for the day: I have a small bag of pączkis in the truck to lay on the family for dessert tonight. And they're the traditional ones, with prune filling. Yummo.)

Ya gotta understand, this is something I imagine few people out West here have heard of.........yes, we do have Polish transplants, but, Kev.......my first thought was that you had an influx of either ants or cucarachas, due to the excess rain! Or rats......

I did have a wonderful conversation with my niece today, we're meeting in New Orleans for breakfast tomorrow, beignets and coffee at cafe du(help me here, Edna)bois???

Prune filling?? isn't that a prune danish then? bleeecchh!! Ptoooie!! I know what prunes are for!!!!

ok... climbing off the chair now......

Oh but Cathi, they are so very yummy!

As an aside, up here the polacks use the Hungarian spelling and pronunciation of punczka (poonch-ka).  Same doughnut and same yumminess!  I SO want to partake in it but I'd end up with bad stomach pains. Sad

I believe that is Cafe Du Monde,  Cathi.  I was there, and it's as good as they say it is.  Especially the Hickory coffee.  The Beignets are to die for.

Are they like Kolaches?  I adore the poppyseed kolaches my grandma used to make.

I only get them once a year now at the Cultural Festival each spring.
