2010 Winter Olympics thread
Feb 22nd, 2010 at 10:52am

I thought I'd start a thread for the Vancouver Winter Olympic games.  Feel free to post your cheers, feelings, disappointments, whatever...

The US is leading at this point with medals.  It's been a superb Olympics thus far.  Amazing victory for the US hockey team last night beating Canada.  Bode Miller taking a Gold was great too.  It just gets better and better as the days go on.

Go USA!!!

Ryan Miller, goalie for the US hockey team - played out of his head last night. 45 shots on goal, stopped 42 of them. It was like he had two extra legs and an extra arm.

Ryan Miller is a machine.  He tends to be a pain in the ass when he plays my Flyers, however i'm loving that he is representing our country in goal.

Congrats to Team USA.
Sorry Canada...  I know that one hurt.

On a personal note ... I couldn't find the Bruin's players that made the Canadian team with slow motion and rewind.  I'm glad they weren't saving it for the Olympics.  They sucked just as bad wearing the Maple Leaf.

Overall, I think it makes me MOST proud to see how our Athletes are 'taking the high road"........I get sick of athletes making excuses about helmets, shoelaces, quads vs athelticism/grace/style........our team, on a whole, has been pretty much avoiding all the badmouthing and excuse making. You're prepared, you've done everything you can to make this your BEST run/routine.whatever, EVER..and if all goes well, it's GOLD- or Silver or Bronze.if not, there's the huge pride in knowing you did your VERY best!
Can't wait for tonight's finals of Ice Dancing!

Loved the description of the Skeleton.......'going downhill, headfirst, on a cafeteria tray".......makes ya really wanna do it, huh?

LOVE the Olympics! wish I were there!

I know that it's all a matter of what your likes and dislikes are, but it seems to me the whole figure skating universe has gotten to be so freakish, I just can't stand watching anything to do with the sport anymore.

I am VERY impressed with our ski team as a whole.  Can't believe how many medals they have won in just about every event.

How about Shaun White and his now famous "Double Mctwist 1260".  Talk about dominating the competition.  He didn't even have to make his 2nd run down the halfpipe.

Snowboard Cross and Ski Cross have to be two of the coolest sports ever invented - it makes me want to be 30 years younger.  I'm usually a curmudgeon when it comes to "new" sports in the Olympics, but I have vastly enjoyed both of the above.

I have a Woman's Curling Champion in my bloodlines and I STILL can't figure out that damn sport. (shrug)

That kid is just so arrogant and cocky - but he really knows his sport!  Did you see his own personal half-pipe in the mountains of Colorado that can only be accessed by helicopter?  Wow.

As an athlete who is head and shoulders above everybody else in his sport, I love the guy. I'm glad he represents the USA.

As a person, he seems like a class A, number one prick.

Ohh, almost time for closing ceremonies...........
We are headed to BC in early May, but that is much too late. Think I'll take a side trip to Whistler and try to bring the sights and sounds back so I can keep them in my memory.
We lived an hour north of LA during the 86 Olympics. Gil was responsible for all of AT&T's phone lines to the venues. He collected pins and met some of the most wonderful people. The Olympics brought out the best in Los Angeles!
We attended several events, braced ourselves to fight the traffic and  the crowds, but it was magical, how the trffic was calm, the people were all so friendly........it was all good! I hope those in BC can say the same........
still and all, wish I were there!
