My brother-in-law lives on what's left of the Lone Oak ranch that has been in my wife's family since 1852. After a long day of working on one of his livestock tanks, we built a nice little fire to watch the sun go down and let the kids enjoy some fireworks - while we drank.......  Wink

Couple of pictures, more in the link below.

I sincerely appreciate the supportive comments, but you folks are too kind.  Paraphrasing what a a wise person on this board once reminded me:  I didn’t create the scenes - I only try and capture what I see and feel about what has been placed in front of me.

Carolyn has been posting some really great work, so I just had to post something to try and keep up with her beautiful images. I may not be able to keep up with her keen eye, but I'll try!

Stacey’s brother Dane, is a native Texan with a very deep sense pride and respect for the land. I have learned more about animals, plants and the natural cycle of things from him than every other source combined, in my 56 years of living on this planet.

I always bring a camera when we head out to the ranch on weekends, because I want to give him images of the place that he loves.

Cathi – funny but most folks never even see that, but the “Lady of the Lake” hit me instantly when I first saw it. The original ranch was multiple Sections and I’m not sure, but I believe that it’s under 300 acres now. I’ll find out tomorrow.

Cathi,

Dennis is right - the pond is indeed stocked with catfish and they grow big - fast.

I can't remember which, but he also adds other fish to keep a balance. (Minnows and Bass maybe?)

Oh, she's there! No doubt! And my first inclination was to name her Lady of the Lake but I wasn't sure you'd understand!

So sad that the farm had to be broken up. There are some amazing century farms out here, one of which, in John Day, is a 29,000 ACRE(WRAP YOUR MIND AROUND that!) cattle ranch...we were on a Corvette run when we encountered a portion of the herd being moved to another field.......in doing so, this herd of, perhaps 100 cattle wandering down the road we were travelling! One particularly friendly guy stuck his head in our window..........gave Gil a big lick on the cheek! The cars required a LOT of tire cleaning after that portion of the drive!!
At any rate, 300 acres IS substantial! I hope it NEVER gets carved up any further.

I take it the snow is gone??

You are too kind, sir!  Those pics of Trailerpark De Trash rank right up there  Cheesy.

I really hope to get a chance to take pictures a couple of weeks from now when I have to go to Jackson MS for a meeting.  If the weather is nice, I'm planning on stopping at the Vicksburg National Military Park and taking some pictures.  Been awhile since I've been there and now I have the Sigma 10-20 mm so I can get some decent pics of some of the monuments.

A B&W shot from the Lone Oak for those who understand why someone would do simple monochrome work these days....

I'm still learning, but when I referred to "the goats" in the picture I was informed that I didn't understand animals. They are sheep.........
