doctors and neuros
Mar 11th, 2010 at 8:37am

went to my Nero Monday and he has basically said that i need to go to the doctor to get the medication ( injection, steroids ect..) so i do as he said and the doctor now says to me why have you booked in for an emergency appointment... well because i don't want to wait 2 weeks to get some medication.

Anyway the doctor says i don't no why you have been prescribed all this medication for a headache 'injections' this is far to much do you know how much this is costing the nhs for a headache. I thought in a minute I'm gonna wack this guy if he says 'headache' in a condescending tone one more time.

I wanted oxygen strait away but the neuro insisted that i try other things first so i take his advice and the doctor is saying this is not what i need at all.

all I'm doing is trying to make my clusters a little easier and Ive got this constant battle against the neuro and the doctor. Now I'm stuck with just 2 injections that will last me what a day? because the doctor doesn't want the nhs to faulk out more money because of a 'headache'

anyways rant over but i might just book and appointment with the neuro and say i want oxygen!! simple as that. fed up of this, why cant they just do things the easy way instead of spending years trying different medicine that doesn't work and keep me in pain for longer than i should be.

Wow.  There is so many things wrong with what your Dr.s are saying to you I don't know where to begin and I really feel for you.

Being in the U.S. I am sure things are different than there.  That said....A Neurologist who diagnosed you with cluster headaches should indeed be able to prescribe you medications.  Not send you to a primary care Dr. for that.

I have it on good authority that in the UK you can not be turned down for 02.  Ask for it.  Insist on it.  One of our members from the UK will hopefully see this and set you on the right path to do doing that.

I feel for you.  I really do.

Thanks. I'm fed up of getting dragged from pillar to post. I have lost all faith in doctors. I'm going to try these injections anyway and if they don't work i might just go and say lisen i don't want steroids i don't want injections, nasal sprays or any of that stuff i just want something that i no will work and has worked for so many people. I'm not trying to say that the other methods of treatment wont work but at the end of the day i would rather try something that has the highest success rate first rather than the lowest.

I'm getting more and more worked up the more i think about it. but sometimes I'm just too nice to the doctors and don't have the guts to say this is what i want and i want it NOW!

Haylz,

I don't know why your doctor won't prescribe you 02, it is much cheaper for him than the injections. I know a lot of doctors have a problem prescribing the injections as it comes out of their budgets!!

If you go onto Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register web page, there is a section called downloads and on there is a HOOF form (Home Oxygen Order Form), half of it has already been filled out, take it to your GP and get him to enter the rest of the details. You should then get your oxygen that you rightly deserve, within a week.

Let me know how you get on.

Haylz,  if you are talking about Imigran injections...yes, those can be expensive.   Oxygen is not.  Also as a preventative many of us use Verapamil and it too,  is not expensive.

I really think here in the Uk there seems a lot of ignorance on the subject of CH, in my experience anyway.
Listen and read the info from this site and take it if you need to to your GP.
I think, sorry i know!! they think you shouldn't be questioning their superior knowledge
Verapamil shouldn't be a problem for them for a start.
Colin.

As Dollyhair mentioned, arm yourself with the downloads available from the site.

All the best, Iddy Smiley
