POLL:Rate the U.S President
Apr 4th, 2010 at 6:34pm

Here is your chance. It takes about 15 seconds.

Hard to believe CBS is actually doing this, AND that they're brave and honest enough to actually show the ongoing polling results.

Take the poll yourself and when you submit your grading of how he is handling the top issues, a second page will come up showing the current results of how America is voting. Remember, this ain't Fox doing this. This is mostly people who watch CBS. That's telling.

DO THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and pass it on.

This is a CBS poll on Obama's first year performance....

Why? This is as unscientific as it gets.

You're right. What chance has this thing of being scientific?

Scientific or not the results are interesting.

It may not be scientific, but with it open to the public in this way the representation can't be all that far off.  Surprisingly, his grading came out worse than I gave him.

First, it's not open to the public - it's open to those with internet access.

Second, it's usually only the ones who feel motivated enough to fill them out, and that means people who feel strongly one way or the other. The big section in the middle - the wishy washy - they don't participate.

There's really nothing random about the sample.

Right:

A thing like this reflects the views of internet connected political geeks and for Christians, those that have the inclination to spend time with on line politics rather than family.

It might show cable news preferences though.  Roll Eyes

I don't fall into any of those categories and I still took the test out of curiosity.  Don't get all my information on line and do spend time with my family.

Wait -I thought 95.72% of statistics were made up, including this one.

Statistics are not perfect, but the statistical method is often the best way or the only way that we have to understand some aspects of our world. How common are cluster headaches -how many people out of 1,000 get them? What medicines are effective for treating them?  How many clusterheads have sleep apnea? Should everyone who gets diagnosed with clusters get brain imaging, or is that a waste of money? Statistics, baby!

The key is to use scientific methods to develop the statistic, and then subject the statistic to critical review to determine how accurate and useful it is.
