Jesus said " Do unto others as you would have done to your self"

Ok regardless of what your beliefs are , if everyone had this in mind as they went about there lives wouldn't the world be a different place.

just a thought.

I don't see a problem with that - since that is how I conduct myself already.

Sadly, it seems that many people today treat this as a antiquated, outdated notion that doesn't apply to their important asses. Life in the fast lane I suppose......

Manners are dead.  In my lifetime I've seen a steady downward trend toward rudeness being the defalt attitude.

I try to counter the prevailing disregard toward kindness and I find that it has only made me become ever more invisable than I initially believed.

It seems as if everyone believes themselves to be more important than another and they are going to make sure that you know know it.

Cultivate being kind to others. Strive to be more than just an ordinary animal.

It may just pay off large someday. I'd rather be invisable here and shine elsewhere.

A couple years ago I think, Peggy Noonan, who is a columnist for The Wall Street Journal and now and then a pundit on weekend political roundtables, wrote about this.

She wrote "Patriotic Grace" which is aimed at the all the thoughtless and nasty behavior in Washington and embarrassing bad political activity in general. It applies to everyone of course. I haven't see her lately but I read her stuff now and then. She's a real adult and knows what she's doing. It's always a pleasure to watch her. She can be found on YouTube, I believe.

You get to pick a prize for that answer!  Kids can't learn manners/courtesy without someone to teach them (and then enforce it).

FWIW, most of the young people/kids that I know do have manner and are taught courtesy, not all, but most.  Not only that, they are expected to exhibit this behavior at all times (even when the parents aren't around).

If we really want a different world, then *we* have to be the change.  IF you have kids/grandkids, teach them manners and respect and ENFORCE IT.  When you come in contact with a rude/nasty person, don't bite, continue to be courteous.  My job puts me in a different Wal Mart 5 days a week and I can show you some rude nasty people (and I"m not talking about the employees).  I try to help people and I am usually courteous and mannerly.

I work on a building site and often get ribbed for not swearing, not that I don't cos I do under extreme provocation or pain ( I'm not proud of that but I do try not to ) , but it's cos I don't use the f word every other word .
now I'm not saying these people are bad , in fact the people I work with are a pretty good bunch and most of them have got your back, and I'm not trying to take the moral high ground here , I just find it unnecessary ,I guess that's how I was brought up.

It's no secret that I am a christian , and I'm not trying to preach or convert any one here , I just think that society needs to change and start becoming more of a you you you society before it starts degrading even more.

Manners cost nothing and an act of random kindness ,no mater how small could change someone's life.

OK I've probably rambled on long enough

Good manners is its own reward too. People remember them and sometimes make it a point to return the favor.

Older boomers were taught good manners in school if not at home. I hope that's still done somewhere.

My experience is that you can usually depend on the military for teaching good manners. It's great to meet youngsters that try to make you feel comfortable around them. I hope that we return the favor. These kids deserve it.

Absolutely .

A 70 year old ex school teacher who lives on our little island , was so upset with the bad press our local rag was giving the young people that hang around the shops here , that he decided to go and have a chat with them. after the initial "what are you talking to us for" type of cold reception , he found them to be polite and courteous and one even apologised for using bad language .
After several "encounters " with them, as he put it , he started to write a column in the local rag about how he thought the youngsters were misinterpreted and misrepresented in our community by the older generation, the people who say "you should have respect for your elders" and often the same people who you find in the shops and libraries being down right rude and disrespectful to the staff and other people there in.
So all that said we should all just think about how we represent our selves and our families and even the human race.
" Do unto others what you would have done to your self"
