For the trapped miners in W. VA, and for their families...especially for the famlies of the miners who died in the blast.

I thought this was going to be a memorial, it doesn't seem so very long since the last mining disaster and that in itself is awful. I'm so sorry to hear of this. Poor families, poor colleagues.. it's tragic

from what my relatives have told me this type of disaster used to be far more common.

my grandfather started mining coal when he was 8 years old. he died at age 45 from black lung and heart conditions. he was a well respected man and had a keen sense of humor. i never had the chance to know him as with several of my relatives that worked the mines in southern west virginia.

if you ever get the chance rent this out. its a pretty good depiction of what coal miners went through back in the 20s and 30s.
