Between rain showers
Apr 17th, 2010 at 4:54pm

It's been raining on and off today since I came home from work. This is some kind of wildflower springing up in my yard, so I grabbed a snapshot of one using a snoot on my flash - spot metered.

Headed back out to see if I can get another flower.

"Oh what a beautiful picture!", said Mel as she opened up this thread.

I appreciate the nice comments, but I can't take credit for the beauty - I just took a picture of it!

Luinda, most of the time I just close my eyes and slowly turn in a circle while pressing the button.

This time I held a full roll of paper towels in front of my flash to create a spotlight. The whole flower in this one is about the size of a quarter.

Then, if you want the light to be soft, you hang a single layer of tissue on the end of the roll. (If you use a roll of toilet paper instead of paper towels, you have both handy  Smiley)

The tube lets light hit the flower while the fat part of the roll blocks the rest of the light.

Where is that *jaw dropping* emoticon when you need it? Smiley

Marc,
That is one helluva picture.  I even understand the *what and why* of what you're talking about.  Jimbo was out shooting one day and it was real bright, so, he used his polarized sun glasses as a filter.

I was going to guess it was a tuberose, but not if it is the size of a quarter.  It is beautiful though!

I think I just found a new wallpaper!
