Just missed the bad weather

About 70 miles east of us, a fairly large tornado touched down.  20-25 houses damaged or destroyed, people trapped, a shipyard destroyed, a leak at a chemical storage facility.  Jimbo's over there having fun now.

This is the NOAA report.  You can literally see the line of tornadic activity.  This was a badass storm system.  Our weather radio alarm kept going off early this morning up until about 8 or so. It did quite a bit of damage over several states.

There were also reports of a tornado in a community north west of us.

After Jimbo got back, he told me that he didn't see how there were no deaths in Tallulah.  You couldn't tell a mobile home from a shed from a house.  Everything was flattened.

local newspaper article

Mississippi got hit the worst (even my hometown had tennis ball sized hail).

I'm going to quote something out of this article that I found to be rather interesting.

Dale Thrasher, 60, had been alone in Hillcrest Baptist Church when the tornado hit Saturday, ripping away wood and metal until all that was left was rubble, Thrasher and the table he had climbed under as he prayed for protection.

"The whole building caved in," he said. "But me and that table were still there."

Sunday was sunny and breezy as Thrasher and other members of the Yazoo City church dug through the debris and pulled out a few chairs and other items. One found a hymnal opened to the song, "Till the Storm Passes By."
