does eliminating diet pepsi and Aspartame help??
May 2nd, 2010 at 6:37pm

I've been on medication for about 6 months now and still continue to have the heqadaches.
I've drank Diet Pepsi heavily for the last two years, 40+ oz per day.  A friend of mine told me about someone that was addicted to diet pepsi and also suffered cluster headaches.  she stopped the diet pepsi and within 2 weeks, the headaches were gone.
I've not drank a diet pepsi in 5 days and I have to say I've seen a nice improvement.
I just wanted to check if others out here have tried this with success.
Thanks so much.

While I hardly ever rule anything out, I've never heard of a connect between the two.

I don't touch aspertame as it almost always triggers a hit for me. Neither sugar nor HFCS do (although I do opt for sugar when I have a choice).

I've never had or even heard of a connection either.

Aspertame has also been a trigger for me. Wise to stay away from in my opinion.

Aspartame can be a trigger for some of us.  Most seem tohave no prob, but then we all react differently to almost everything.  Try Diet Coke with Splenda if you can find it.  I switched to it a couple of years ago and have done much better with it.

I've found Citric Acid to be a trigger for me when in cycle. It's in regular Pepsi but not Coke. Not sure about diet Pepsi?? May be worth checking.

I know that aspartame triggers migraines and ch in me.  I stay away from the stuff in all products.

I found a difference for sure...have been off all diet Pepsi,Coke for about a month after a 40+ yr history of 1 or 2 a day...my headaches are by no means gone but I've noticed a difference in the amount and the severity of headaches..plus a difference in the way I feel in general...have read lots of info on them in relation to nervous system and other effects...never wanted to give them up but in desperation took the plunge and will never go back....effects of "trigger" food and drinks varies from person to person but worth exploring.... Aspartame is a definite trigger for me when I'm in cycle. I've switched to splenda. Diet Coke makes one version with splenda, if you must drink the stuff.

as mentioned by someone else, citric acid is also a trigger for me.

About 20 years ago is started to replace sugar with Aspartame (Because the doctor told me I had diabetes type II). I put an Aspartame 'pill' into every cup of coffee and tea. That added up to 10-15 pills a day.

But 5 years ago I got fed up with that nasty sweet taste and since then I take coffee in its natural form and black tea with a shot of lemon juice. This change from sugar to Aspartame to natural did not make any difference at all with CH.

It must be something else in those horrible synthetic drinks like Coke or Pepsi that triggers a CH attack.  Wink.
