Since when?
May 18th, 2010 at 2:05pm

Since when in Texas (Dallas maybe?) do I have to have the LPM flow rate included as part of an oxygen prescription? News to me. Meant an extra trip back to the doctor's office to get the additional information added. One medical supply office wanted separate prescriptions: one for the oxygen and one for the regulator.

Been awhile though so maybe it's me.

My Rx for O2, written over 10 years ago, includes the flow rate.

Maybe it's just you. Wink

Speaking strictly for San Diego it can depend on the individual supply house. I had to show a prescription for oxygen just to get the guy to put a new hose on my damned regulator. Sigh.....if stupid hurt I think we'd have a lot less of these people to deal with! Cheesy

Why not just skip the scrips and go to a welders supply? Far less hassle and less expensive.

I'm blessed with a new health plan that covers my 02 again. I just call APRIA...everything I need magically appears. They're coming between 5 and 9 tonight to bring me another "6 pack" of E-tanks.

Otherwise I'd probably be joining you at the welders supply yard. Wink

I've had to have the LPM written down on the script in No. Calif. as well as Kentucky.

My prescribing neuro and the PCP's before that ALL wrote the LPM on the script without me asking...I suspect they knew it would be required at the O2 house (Wa state-Lincare, who have never said either way)...and always for 8 lpm.

That flow worked for me for years...until I learned better right here at ch.com. Since the supplied regulator didn't go over 8... I bought my own 25 LPM on ebay for $33.00  (SUCH a deal).

Broken record here...I couldn't care less what the script says..it's just the ticket that gets me what I need...the LPM's are then up to ME!

One additional comment...I'm failing to comprehend the supply house requiring a separate script for a regulator....how the heck do they expect you to use the scripted O2 without one!!!!!!! This is either bureaucracy gone wrong, lame ass "company policy" generated by a lawyer with paranoia in the soul and common sense educated right out....OR...another all too prevalent MORON.

Best,

Jon

Thanks for the comments, but I was just grumbling. Back in '86 there was no choice on flow rates, and it's just a pain to deal with it now.

Besides, this cycle is particularly ugly. My long time and knowledgeable doctor died unexpectedly last year. The O2 place where I could get whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it (with or without an Rx) closed. I have been getting hit on an hourly basis since Friday night and had to do the weekend without O2. The topamax has not yet ramped up to stomp them suckers flat as it usually does.

The new doctor can't see me until 05/25 unless there is a cancellation. Without spending time on morbid details, I will probably go to ER or an urgent care tonight and try to coax them into a prednisone taper or whatever works. The hourly whacks are a pain. Literally.

Other than the hourly nonsense, there is nothing especially new except switching the medical folks. I have lived it before and will live it again, I am sure. Getting old sucks. Unfortunately, the CH never gets old, damnit.

Again, thanks for the comments and suggestions.
