I think England's momentum may have changed if that blind ref would have seen Lampard's obvious goal before the half.  They were striking and completely controlling the game at that moment.  What a buzz kill.

There seems to have been many, many issues where referees have missed things or have been taken in by things like diving.

Being a world cup, the referees have been taken from all over the world, with the result that many matches have been under the control of relatively inexperienced referees.

It is also amazing that football does not make use of any technology other than the human eye to make the decisions. It doesn't even make use of replays from TV that for things like the England "goal" would have made it very, very obvious that a goal really was scored.

Is it time for football to join the 21st century?

I 100% agree with you Mike.  The games I watched... I saw the US get robbed of a goal and now England.
I believe instant replay is now going to be pushed due to these issues especially during the World Cup.  Here in the states, the National Hockey League sends video to Toronto, Canada to review goals in slow motion.  The refs lets the league decide and then they announce if it's a goal or not. They need to do something like this in football/soccer as well.

Agree instant replay for goals only. But the refs did not affect who advanced. The US just ran out of gas agains a Ghanaian team that was playingon adrenilin for their continent. Donopvan is now our star and I hope they keep Bradley for 2014. He put together a good team (but needs a finisher) My sonshut down Robbie Findlay for 90 minutes witout a shot when he played for Oregon St three years ago. You need more than just speed in this game. Yu need touch and ability to finish. We wer two players away from the senis and will do better in 2014. I pick Argentina this year.

World cup?

I never heard of that race before.
Is it an oval or a road course?

Wait, I think I heard it playing while I was at the bank. I thought the engines sounded like mosquitoes. It must be a race of all rice burners.

It's a soccer compitition held every 4 years...I suppose it's a bit like the world series in baseball only significant difference is the whole world is actually involved.

Poli, I wish luck to Spain against those German's.
They're on a mission.  Spain isn't ranked #1 for nothing though.
I think the Dutch will take Uruguay though.  It's going to be two great semi games.

I've watched several of the World Cup games because, you know, 57 channels and nothing on. I like the international competition aspect, but can't really get into the game itself. Seems to me like watching a basketball game where no one can score a basket.
I admit that it would probably help if I knew the rules of the game. Watched a game where they disallowed a goal because of an off sides. They ran a replay with a still frame at the critical time, and said, see the off side? All I could think was.. no.
I'll probably watch some more, but still be in puzzlement.
Anyway, Enjoy

Offsides in soccer is similar to the blue line in ice hockey except the blue line always changes in soccer.
The last striker who has possession is the imaginary blue blue.  Once he kicks the ball forward, it's free game to any player on the same team.  Now, if those players go past the last defender on the opposing team before that man in possession kicks the ball, it's offsides.  That's when the line judges flag goes up.
