Here are a couple photos DJ sent of a hawk he's seen around his place the past few days:

It's a Mississippi Kite, Ictinia mississippiensis.  Here's a Wiki about them if you're interested:

I've never seen one before, and I think it's pretty cool that he's got them hanging around.   Smiley

He asked me to post these, since he isn't going to have a chance to post in the next couple days.  He also promises some better photos when he gets a chance to take them.   Smiley

Best,

George

Well, they do look something like a biggish pigeon, LOL.   Wink  Here's a photo from the Ohio DNR:

Look closely at DJ's second photo--you can see the hooked beak.

I was going to say - I would NOT want to be on the business end of that beak.

We have a hawk's nest in an oak tree in our yard,  We've had a pair of hawks living in our neighbor's tree for the past few years.  I think they produced a baby or two, and I think one of those babies are producing a new baby in my oak tree!  I sure hope so!  Mama or Papa hawk flies in bringing supper (usually a baby squirrel or something) and feeds the baby hawk(s).  It's fascinating just to watch.

I'm not sure exactly what hawk type these birds are, but they are quite big.  All I know is that one of them likes to perch on the luggage rack of our Ford Explorer, and poop all over the car!

They are gorgeous and I love to watch them

LOL...that is EXACTLY what I said.  We have two that roost up on the light pole in our yard.  The other day, Brandon pointed up and said, "look Mommy, hawks!"  I looked and they were, umm, doing the " bird tango"...LOL  P.S. They LOVE to taunt the cat next door (who has made my flower bed its poo box *&$&@*&#($)...maybe they'll take it away the next time they swoop down!

George, we we didn't know what it was, other than, "the fat-looking-pigeon-bird", we knew you would help us out!!  Thanks buddy!!
