Out-of-cycle hit?
Jun 15th, 2010 at 1:42am

I'm usually a spring cycle person, and was pretty convinced that I escaped with only a handful of minor hits and shadows earlier this year.  But tonight, I find myself with a classic hit coming out of the blue.  Fortunately it was moderate; I am not prepared for battle at this time.  I was able to keep it under control with some time on the bike.

I often get the Kip 2-3 hit hits while in remission.  But this one seems way out of character at around 6.  Has anyone else gotten a random off-season hit like this?

I hope it's not the beginning of a cycle Sad

My first three cycles were all at Chrismas time. the last one started 5 and a half weeks ago and ended 3 and a half weeks ago, so I was surprised indeed.
I have no clue what triggered the cycle.

Maybe that's just the way it is. From what I've read here, the beast inside likes to keep things varying  Angry

That had crossed my mind, but Iḿ hoping for the random hit theory.  For the next few days, I will probably avoid making any new commitments for the coming months.  Perhaps I should check and see if my neuro is still around, too.

I suppose it's possible that it was a random hit.  I used to get random, out-of-cycle hits when I was younger.

It's been a long time since I've gotten hit at any level when I'm out of cycle.

'Course, none of that means much.  It could happen tomorrow.   Tongue

Best,

George

I finished a pretty mild cycle in April and then copped a random hit a few weeks ago..... was taken totally by surprised.  Turns out I'm back in cycle  Shocked

I hope for your sake it is just a random hit - but preparing yourself wouldn't be a bad idea!

Well, that was weird, but does not appear to be the start of something bigger.  Thanks for the comments!

Happens to me all the time. If I get a couple in a row I take 20 mg of prednisone and that usually stops them.

Yes, I've had random hits. Not too often, but every once in awhile.

I've been PF for the last two years out of 14 years dealing with the beast. I've used the shroom treatment and it's been working like a champ. My cycle is usually November-March. Due to some unexpected life changes and stress my cycle started back up and I can't get rid of the buggers.

In my 22 years of CH, I've had a few out of cycle hits, up to Kip-7. Out of the blue then right back to remission.

That truly sucks.   Sad  Hope it's a short cycle, and a mild one.

Best wishes,

Bad luck!!  Angry

I too hope it is a mild and quick cycle.

I had a mild cycle that finished early April and then copped a random hit in May that turned into another cycle.  Its been just over a week since the last hit - so I've got my fingers well a truly crossed!

Wishin you all the best,

Kate

I got to see a neuro yesterday.  We met previously a couple years ago at the tail end of a cycle, so he is not going to get rich on my account.  But I am set up with O2 now, which has worked very well in the past.  We are also trying Verapamil, which will be new for me.  Actually, going through this with a knowledgeable doctor will be a new experience.

Thanks for your support!  This site has been the most consistent help I have had over the years.

Jon, sorry about the out of cycle hit. I'm 56 and in day13 of my first CH cycle. Just got my o2 yesterday and having a lttile trouple figuring out when to take it. If I take it with the first sinus swelling and tearing of the eye (I'm a right sider) then it seems to bring on the ha. If I wait until it's a kip 3 then it seems too late. If you're up to it, any advice? By the way I have great docs at Johns Hopkins. They had heard of CH and even o2 but didn't know exactly how to use it. They admitted me and actually looked at the CH.com site with me, tried Imitrex which didn't help, then o2 which did at the hosptila. Started me on Predinxome and Verapanil as preventative, but they are not going to stop a cycle. Wishing you pf hours today and days to come, and welcome any tips for o2. Jay

Jay, Sorry you needed to find us, but be very glad you did.  On your first cycle, Yeah!  There is a lot of info on the site, most good, some wacky.  One thing you will find is that we're all a little different, the HA's come differently, and we respond differently to meds.

Read up on the oxygen info, and read through the numerous other posts.  I purchased a rebreathing mask online - the kind with the bag that finishes filling just about the time I need another breath.  One thing to remember is to exhale fully - push all the stale air out.

For me, I (like many others) went through misdiagnosis and a lot of inappropriate dope.  A former GP suggested O2, and I read about it on this site.  It seemed a hassle, but was so much better than the drugs.

For me, the sooner I get to it, the better.  7-10Liters/minute keeps up with relaxed breathing.  I think getting there early keeps the peak down.  I am very sure that O2 is responsible for 20-30 minute hits, instead of 60.  Your mileage may vary.  By the end of the cycle, you will probably figure it out.  Keep notes; it may be back in a year or three.

I wish you only mild hits and a short cycle.

That name sounds too familiar.  Did you used to work for a company from Princeton?
