Finding Medical Insurance
Jun 19th, 2010 at 10:11am

We are in desperate need of medical insurance.  Most people I know are.  Our kids are covered by the state, but we aren't.  I know that underlying medical issues can play a huge role in the monthly premiums.

Does anyone know if cluster headaches will raise those rates?

Does anyone know of a good insurance company that won't charge outrageous monthly rates?

There are so many insurance companies that you could spend your life surveying them. Look for "insurance agents" in your Yellow Pages and locate one or more who represent a number of companies. They are in a better position to know/scan for coverage.

Actually, if your husband has been treated for ch, they can refuse to cover him or exclude his clusters (been down that road with my daughter who has several chronic illnesses).  We had to insure her through our state high risk pool and it's not real cheap, but it could be worse.

I haven't been keeping up on all the political news lately.  I will look into that, though.

I will check the link out, thanks!

I don't think that takes effect till August (or some time this summer).  Everyones rates will go up to cover this additional expense to the insurance companies.

Actually there are no changes in the pre-exisitng coverage this year (or next from what I can see).

"The requirement to cover people with pre-existing conditions doesn't kick in until 2014. Until then, a new high-risk pool will offer coverage to uninsured people with pre-existing medical problems."
